Company Overview

Red 6 is an innovative Augmented Reality (AR) technology startup leading the way in synthetic air combat training. Our primary technology, supporting our ATARS product, enables pilots to simulate the cognitive challenges of flying while accessing realistic, scalable training in dynamic outdoor environments.

Job Summary

We are seeking a Model-Based Systems Engineer (MBSE) to be the first MBSE hire at Red 6—this is a foundational role in our evolving systems engineering organization. You will define and implement model-based practices, build the digital thread across hardware and software teams, and help mature our product development lifecycle through rigorous system modeling.

This position offers a unique opportunity to establish MBSE methodologies and tooling from the ground up, shaping how Red 6 engineers architect, verify, and evolve our complex aerospace systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build MBSE Foundations: Lead the adoption and implementation of SysML-based MBSE practices at Red 6, tailored to our product architecture and organizational needs.

  • System Modeling: Develop and manage SysML models that capture system requirements, structure, behaviors, and constraints.

  • Architecture Definition: Design modular, scalable system architectures to support AR training solutions in airborne and ground-based environments.

  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Partner with software, hardware, and flight test teams to ensure cohesive system integration and traceability across disciplines.

  • Digital Thread Enablement: Help establish a continuous, model-driven workflow connecting requirements, design, simulation, and V&V artifacts.

  • Mentorship & Process Development: Provide technical leadership and documentation to onboard future MBSE practitioners as the team grows.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical field.

  • 5+ years of experience in systems engineering, with 2+ years using MBSE practices in an aerospace or defense environment.

  • Deep understanding of SysML and experience using tools such as Cameo/MagicDraw, Enterprise Architect, or similar.

  • Strong grasp of requirements management and traceability (DOORS, Jama, or equivalent).

  • Demonstrated ability to define architecture and lead technical planning across multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, especially in cross-functional environments.

  • Qualified candidates must have the ability to obtain a security clearance. This requires U.S. Citizenship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Systems Engineering or a closely related field.

  • Familiarity with digital engineering frameworks, digital twins, or model validation techniques.

  • Experience with AR/VR systems, avionics, or embedded platforms.

  • Working knowledge of Agile development methodologies.

  • Experience setting up MBSE practices in early-stage or scaling organizations.

  • Active DoD security clearance.

Full-Time Employee Benefits

  • Healthcare, Dental, and Vision (100% coverage for Employees)

  • Paid time off, including vacation, sick, paid holidays, and parental leave

  • Short and Long-Term Disability

  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA)

  • 401(k) Retirement Plan

  • Voluntary Worksite Benefits (Accident, Critical Illness, and Hospital Indemnity)
