About the Role
Redhorse transforms the way government uses data and technology. To support this mission, we are seeking Mid-Level "Everything Engineers" with a Backend focus to modernize a mission-critical legacy system managing billions of dollars in international security cooperation.
This isn't a traditional maintenance role; you will be part of a team replacing a decades-old platform with a modern web ecosystem built through an Agentic AI Software Development Lifecycle. You will use AI-led tools like Claude Code and Codex as primary drivers in your workflow, focusing on shipping verified capabilities rather than just typing lines of code. This is an opportunity to work at the intersection of national security and the future of software engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Decompose complex business problems into precise technical specifications that enable AI agents to implement code directly and accurately.
- Develop and own domain services in TypeScript and Node.js, including case lifecycle state machines, pricing engines, and payment-schedule logic.
- Lead "business-rule archaeology" by extracting logic from legacy Java and PL/SQL packages to reimplement them in a modern, test-driven environment.
- Ensure financial-grade correctness by building append-only audit trails, segregation-of-duties enforcement, and reproducible calculations for federal audits.
- Deliver complete vertical slices of business capability across the full stack, from UI components in React to infrastructure-as-code in AWS CDK.
- Perform rigorous peer reviews and maintain an always-green main branch through continuous integration and automated testing (Vitest/Playwright).
- Collaborate with stakeholders to provide a "always-on" beta environment, ensuring quick iterations and mission alignment.
Required Experience/Clearance
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and eligible for a U.S. SECRET clearance.
- 3+ years of experience building and operating production web systems.
- Hands-on experience using Agentic AI development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, or equivalent) on professional codebases.
- Professional proficiency in TypeScript, Node.js, and PostgreSQL.
- Demonstrated ability to work across the full ecosystem, including cloud infrastructure (AWS), CI/CD pipelines, and security fundamentals.
- Proven experience with modern ORMs like Prisma and building/maintaining REST APIs.
Desired Experience
- Ability to read and interpret legacy PL/SQL and Java code for logic extraction.
- Experience building financial calculation engines or audit-sensitive systems.
- Familiarity with Temporal workflows or complex state machine management.
- Prior experience working in regulated or government environments (FedRAMP, RMF, IL-4/5).
- Experience with Oracle-to-Postgres migrations.
- Experience with AWS GovCloud and container orchestration via EKS or ECS.
