Position Summary:

The Manufacturing Engineer develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods throughout operations, utilizing knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, equipment capabilities, and tooling/fixture design.

Key Results Areas:

1. Review process documentation to ensure customer requirements are met and develop documentation needed to verify and validate requirements.

a. Review standard production requirements by customer and industry to develop critical documents for production.

b. Write and review work instructions to ensure customer requirements are met and critical control points are defined.

c. Identify and validate lessons learned with Project Engineering group to drive continuous improvement.

d. Ensure that all lessons learned are incorporated into work instructions and drawings to ensure that the quality of the product and BN processes continually improve.

e. Determine processes that need to be outsourced and create instructions to ensure requirements are clear for the purchase order.

2. Develop documentation, order equipment and coordinate activities to ensure that schedules are met.

a. Research and identify equipment or tools needed to improve capacity and performance to ensure productivity improvements for the department.

b. Monitor equipment installations and repairs to ensure they meet requirements and stay on schedule.

c. Research and identify equipment software improvements to improve capacity and performance to ensure productivity improvements for the department.

d. Complete the purchase requisition for needed equipment and submit to Purchasing to ensure the project schedule can be met with suppliers lead times.

e. Review requirements, work instructions and drawings with lead machinist to ensure customer requirements can be met.

f. Verify and validate that all machines are working properly and preventive maintenance is performed per the schedule.

g. Review preventive maintenance data to ensure the effectiveness of the maintenance program.

h. Evaluate Material Review Reports (MRR) for the department, provide root cause analysis and implement corrective action plans to ensure process improvement of future builds.

i. Develop the preventive maintenance schedule and monitor the adherence to the schedule to ensure equipment operates efficiently.

3. Verify and validate the production requirements of the product and ensure that the department capability metrics are achieved.

a. Evaluate processes that are yielding low quality and pull together a problem-solving team to improve quality.

b. Monitor department consumables on key items and create purchase requisition when items are at the re-order point to ensure production schedules can be maintained.

c. Review production data against throughput and capacity data and raise resource issues to management.

4. Ensure facility maintenance schedules are maintained and achieved to ensure the safety of employees and the quality of the product.

a. Develop schedule and monitor suppliers providing preventive maintenance on cranes and forklifts to ensure functionality and safety is maintained.

b. Determine new equipment locations and monitor/hire/contract the subcontractor work to ensure BN requirements are met.

c. Monitor key facility systems and ensure subcontractors are scheduled in a timely manner to ensure safety of employees.

5. Collaborate with all departments to ensure that information and data transfers effectively to meet customer needs and organizational objectives.

a. Identify daily safety, quality, delivery cost issues and report to management in the daily work status meeting.

b. Collaborate with engineering to ensure work instructions and drawings for production are released and accurate in order to properly meet customer requirements.

c. Collaborate with Purchasing to ensure that parts and equipment needed to meet customer requirements are identified, ordered from an approved supplier and received per the schedule needs.

d. Collaborate with Quality to validate requirements and disposition nonconforming parts.

e. Collaborate with Planning to modify the schedule when maintenance and repair needs require equipment to be down.

6. Ensure safety of the employees and quality of the products throughout all processes.

a. Able to locate Quality Management System procedures, have read and understand relevant procedures and are aware of all procedural changes when they occur.

b. Follow all production procedures to drive quality outcomes.

c. Assist with root cause analysis to ensure that safety and quality problems properly evaluated and corrected.

d. Compliant with all safety procedures to ensure proper protective equipment usage to ensure personnel safety.

7. Continuously improve procedures, processes and methods to effectively meet customer needs and organizational objectives.

a. Identify and implement improvements in process and product relating to safety, quality, delivery and cost and elevates them to the Manufacturing Manager.

b. Assist on continuous improvement teams to help drive department improvements.

Requirements

Qualifications:

To qualify for this position, an individual must possess the knowledge, training, experience and abilities required.

Education and Training

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:

  • Ten years of manufacturing engineering experience in a CNC machining environment.
  • Three years of lean manufacturing experience in a CNC machining environment.
  • Three years' experience with recognized quality systems (ISO, AS, QS, TS)
  • Working knowledge of metal machining, welding, and non-destructive testing processes, and familiarity with casting, plating, coating, and finishing processes.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise resource planning software (Vantage preferred).
  • Knowledge of configuration control in an ISO/AS environment.
  • Knowledge of ANSI Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T)

Other:

  • Must be willing to work overtime as required
  • Travel up to 10% of working time.

Desired Job Qualification:

  • Experience using 3D CAD/CAM software. Solidworks, MasterCam, and/or NCL desired.

 Compensation and Benefits:

The salary range for this role is $100,000 - $130,000 and is commensurate with the applicant’s experience. This range represents the anticipated minimum and maximum base for this position. The final compensation for this position will be set based on the applicant’s qualifications (education, training and/or experience related to this role), and therefore, may fall outside the range shown, depending on the circumstances.
