The Managing Director, Strategic Finance & Analytics at Portage Point represents a unique opportunity to assume a wide range of responsibilities and make a significant impact. This Managing Director is a senior leader responsible for driving client engagements, originating new business, building high-performing teams and spearheading innovative solutions in financial strategy, planning and analytics. The Managing Director, Strategic Finance & Analytics will report directly to the OCFO Practice Line Leader and will combine strategic vision and technical expertise to deliver exceptional results for middle-market clients across diverse industries. You will lead key initiatives, manage discrete workstreams and work closely with senior leaders. Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end client engagements, delivering strategic finance and analytics solutions that create measurable value
- Develop and deploy of scalable processes, methodologies and analytical solutions which result in step-function improvements to middle market OCFO functions
- Advise C-suite executives, private equity sponsors and lenders on key financial initiatives, including financial planning and analysis (FP&A), budgeting, forecasting and scenario planning
- Design and implement driver-based models and tools that enable better decision making and alignment with client objectives
- Design and / or enhance key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement technology-driven performance visibility solutions by integrating diverse datasets to generate insight using tools like Power BI, Tableau, Power Query, Snowflake, SQL and Python
- Support and advise clients through complex transactional and operational situations, including mergers, acquisitions and carveouts, operating model transformations, selling / buying the business, technology implementations, etc.
- Lead and manage multiple concurrent engagements to provide technical accounting and financial or business advisory guidance to clients (sponsors, lenders and management teams)
- Build, mentor and lead a high-performing team of finance and analytics professionals
- Develop thought leadership in strategic finance and analytics positioning the firm as a market leader
- Collaborate with leadership to refine service OCFO offerings and go-to-market strategies
- Sell engagements across a network of senior executives, private equity firms, entrepreneurs, lenders and lawyers
- Lead or support internal trainings and best practice sharing
- Lead business development and client relationship efforts
- Lead talent acquisition and firm-building initiatives
- Contribute to a high-performing, inclusive and values-driven culture
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics or a related field from a top undergraduate program; MBA, advanced degree or CPA / CFA designation preferred
- Located in or willing to relocate to Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Nashville, New York, Palm Beach or Philadelphia
- Invested in a team-based culture, motivated to collaborate in office four days per week and willing to work at client sites as needed
- 15 plus years of experience in strategic finance, FP&A, IB or management consulting, with a focus on middle-market companies
- Proven track record of achieving business growth, with experience managing revenues of four million annually
- Expertise in financial modeling, scenario planning and advanced analytics
- Strong understanding of private equity environments and value creation strategies
- Exceptional leadership and team-building skills, with a demonstrated ability to mentor and manage team members
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a focus on business development and client relationship management
- Bias towards and track record of leveraging technology and automation solutions (Power BI / Tableau, Power Automate, UI Path, Automation Anywhere) to drive business process efficiency
- Proficiency in financial technologies and tools (e.g., Adaptive Insights, Oracle PBCS, Power BI, Tableau, etc.)
- Strong executive presence and communication skills
- Proven ability to thrive in lean, fast-moving teams
- High attention to detail, responsiveness and ownership mindset
- Track record of success in high-pressure, client-facing environments
