Position Overview 

The Managing Director, Impact (MDI) is a programs leader charged with overseeing the implementation and efficacy of City Year Denver's innovative service models in Denver Public Schools (DPS).

Equally adept at project management and talent development, the MDI operates as the department head for City Year Denver's Impact Team. Along with their four direct and indirect reports, the MDI creates the conditions necessary for City Year Denver to achieve its "double-bottom line" of student impact in academic and durable skills for DPS students along with cultivating a meaningful leadership development experience for the 17-25 year olds who serve as Student Success Coaches.

No two days are exactly the same for the MDI, as they shift seamlessly from high-level oversight of our Whole School, Whole Child (WSWC) programming, to partnership engagement with DPS district leaders, to program support for our Teaching Fellows and Social Work Fellows, to managing Impact Team performance. 

 

Responsibilities 

Oversee Program Implementation 

  • Develop and implement Whole School, Whole Child program goals, Student Success Coach deployment, and Impact Team staffing plans to ensure excellent service delivery across six Denver Public Schools

  • Alongside the Impact Director, manage and continuously improve City Year Denver's Teaching Fellowship and Social Work Fellowship

  • Guide Impact Team capacity towards City Year Denver's double-bottom-line of programmatic impact for DPS students and meaningful program experience for the 17–25-year-olds serving with City Year Denver

  • Steward City Year Denver's relationships with school partners, finalizing school service plans and continually monitoring conditions for success

  • Establish school safety plans at all partner schools to ensure student and Student Success Coach safety protocols are in place and consistently practiced

  • In consultation with the Managing Director, People & Operations, manage resolution of student and Student Success Coach safety issues

Staff & Student Success Coach Leadership

  • Lead and develop an Impact Team department of four direct and indirect reports 

  • As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, support initiatives to establish a sitewide culture of belonging

  • Support staff and Student Success Coach learning and professional development through individual and group coaching and by modeling outstanding professionalism, strong application of the City Year values, and effective leadership 

  • Use performance management process to coach team members to meet individual development and performance goals  

  • Play a leading role in advancing City Year Denver’s commitment to communal belonging and social responsibility

 

District Engagement & School Partnerships 

  • Work with Executive Director, site leadership, and Headquarters to deepen DPS district engagement with City Year

  • Ensure Impact Director and Impact Managers have the coaching and resources required to build effective school relationships 

  • Meet with all partner principals at the start, middle, and end of year to lead programmatic reporting and partnership alignment

  • Conduct ongoing school visits to support observation and coaching

  • Oversee City Year Denver's data-sharing agreement with DPS 

 

Grant Compliance

  • Ensure Impact staff achieves AmeriCorps compliance goals and grant outcome goals  

  • Oversee communication and relationship development with Colorado’s AmeriCorps state commission, Serve Colorado 

  • Oversee Serve Colorado compliance audit process and complete site progress-monitoring reports 

  • Work with City Year Headquarters to maintain compliance with processes such as background checks, grant enrollment/exit procedures, and other state requirements 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Minimum 7 years of aligned professional experience 

  • Strong passion for and commitment to City Year’s mission of delivering high impact service to children and schools; developing young adults participating in national service as powerful civic leaders and life-long active citizens; promoting and advancing the concept of voluntary national service; belief in youth as agents of social change 

  • Experience working in youth development and/or educational setting 

  • Minimum 3 years of experience managing others and leading a team 

  • Demonstrated ability to manage strategic relationships and establish sustainable partnerships with schools, district administration, and relevant stakeholders 

  • Demonstrated ability to create long-term vision and strategies for building program effectiveness and capacity 

  • Strong project management skills; able to manage multiple tasks, priorities and stakeholders effectively; ability to generate results and complete projects within deadlines 

  • AmeriCorps experience a plus

  • Strategic Thinking and Planning: develops and translates strategies into objectives, action plans and measurements, that build the capacity of the site/department. 

Compensation

Expected compensation for this role is $90,000 - $110,000 contingent upon aligned experience and qualifications.
