About the role

In this role, you will lead teams focused on operational excellence, observability, and quality. You will guide and support a large group of software engineers, champion high standards for code quality and performance, and help establish best practices across the organization. Your role includes strategic planning, driving team execution, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.

As a Manager, Software Development Engineering, You Will Get To

  • Lead and mentor a team of Site Reliability Engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.

  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of observability practices, ensuring robust monitoring systems are in place.

  • Develop and champion quality standards to ensure software is reliable, performant, and maintainable.

  • Act as a key communicator between teams, stakeholders, and senior management, ensuring alignment on goals and progress.

  • Contribute to organizational planning, identifying technical investments and guiding teams toward the product vision.

  • Promote operational excellence by ensuring systems are testable, operable, and stable, and by supporting a low-toil on-call process.

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice, which must be identified to the Company. U.S. employees may live in any of the 50 United States, with limited exceptions.

In California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington state, and Washington DC the standard base pay range for this role is $170,900.00 - $273,100.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington state, and Washington DC and may not be applicable to other locations.

In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.

Who you are
  • 3+ years of experience with Observability, Quality, and/or OpEx processes and technologies

  • Experience in the real estate or technology industry.

  • Familiarity with Zillow's products and services.

  • Proven experience as a Software Development Manager or similar role, with a track record of managing large teams and delivering high-quality software solutions.

  • Strong background in operational software practices, observability, and quality assurance.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement standards and best practices across an organization.

  • Experience in planning and execution, with a focus on continuous improvement and operational excellence.
