Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on, strategic, and technically proficient Manager / Senior Manager of Application Security to lead a growing team of security engineers. This role is ideal for a leader who thrives in a fast-paced SaaS environment, is passionate about scaling secure development practices, and can dive deep into technical challenges while fostering a high-performing and psychologically safe team culture. You must have the ability to assist the team with developing and implementing the solutions the team is responsible for.
What You'll Do
  • Team Leadership & Development
    • Hire, mentor, and grow a world-class team of application security engineers
    • Conduct regular 1:1s and foster psychological safety and career development
    • Train team members in candidate screening and managerial interviewing
  • Technical Oversight & Hands-On Contribution
    • Lead and perform complex application security reviews and threat modeling
    • Provide expert guidance on security architecture, tooling, and secure coding practices
    • Develop scalable security solutions such as automated testing and centralized libraries
    • Own and evolve documentation and procedures for security reviews
  • Strategic & Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Drive initiatives that holistically address multiple vulnerabilities across products
    • Evangelize and lead security training efforts with development teams
    • Build strong partnerships with Legal, Infrastructure, IT, Development, and Product teams
    • Provide input on quarterly OKRs/MBOs and deliver on them successfully
  • Operational Excellence
    • Maintain tactical oversight of daily team efforts and long-term vision
    • Develop and track KPIs to measure team performance and impact
    • Act as Incident Manager during major security events and participate in the Security Escalation On-Call rotation
    • Identify and implement security-related technical and process improvements

We're looking for someone who:
  • Can work remotely or from an Applied office

The position could be an excellent match for a Data Engineer with:
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in Security Operations, Incident Response, or GRC, with at least 3 years building application security programs
  • Proven experience leading security or security-focused SRE teams in a SaaS or product company
  • Expert-level understanding of security libraries, controls, and vulnerabilities
  • Deep familiarity with modern AppSec tooling: SAST, SCA, DAST, IAST, RASP
  • Strong development/scripting skills; experience with .NET Core, Go, Python preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of cloud infrastructure (GCP preferred), Kubernetes, Docker, and Helm
  • Excellent communication skills, including executive-level reporting and collaboration
  • Ability to lead through ambiguity and context-switching with ease
  • Holds at least two relevant security certifications (e.g., CSSLP, CASE, GWEB, OSCP, OSWE)

    Our targeted starting base salary in the United States for this position ranges from $140,000 - $170,000. To determine a new team member's starting pay, we consider a variety of factors, including someone's depth, breadth, and variety of experience, skills, and responsibilities. Depending on the role, team members may also be eligible to participate in additional compensation plans such as bonus and commission.
