The Manager, Resources & Engagement, will work alongside a dedicated team to participate in the relocation of more than 300,000 animals to date, making a direct and meaningful impact on the animals who need us most. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and collaborative, with strong judgment and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

Who We Are 

The ASPCA’s Animal Relocation department is tasked with providing effective, lifesaving, animal relocation and transport. Using the theories of supply and demand, relocation saves lives by transporting animals from under-resourced shelters in areas of oversupply where the chance of adoption is slim, to shelters where the chances of adoption are greater.

Compensation 

The target hiring range is based on where the employee works, which for remote roles is the employee’s primary location of residence, and its respective cost of labor.  You can view which zone applies to you based on your location (aspca.app.box.com/v/aspcazonetable). Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of factors, including but not limited to education, training, experience, location, business needs, internal equity, market demands or budgeted amount for the role. The target hiring range is for new hire offers only, and compensation may increase beyond the maximum hiring range based on performance over time. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience. The expected hiring salary ranges for this role are set forth below and may be modified in the future.    

  • Zone 1: $61,000 - $65,000 annually

  • Zone 2: $67,000 - $72,000 annually

  • Zone 3: $74,000 - $79,000 annually

Responsibilities:

What You’ll Do  

The Manager, Resources & Engagement, plays a critical role in supporting the success of the ASPCA’s Animal Relocation program by leading workforce processes, operational systems, and cross-functional coordination, while fostering a connected and engaged contingent workforce. This person in this role will partner closely with senior leadership to align staffing, develop workforce strategies, and ensure safe execution of transport. In addition, this manager will oversee key operational processes, including invoicing, payroll, safety compliance, and standard operating procedure (SOP) management.  

 

The Manager, Resources & Engagement, will also serve as a central liaison across teams and functional areas, driving communication, planning, and coordination efforts, while managing internal communications, digital content, and department-wide events.  

 

The Manager, Resources and Engagement reports directly to the Director, Performance & Engagement and has no direct reports. 

 

Where and When You’ll Work 

 

  • This remote-based position (which requires travel, as described below) is open to all eligible candidates based within the United States (with preference for candidates located in Eastern or Central Time Zones). 
  • The position is remote; however, the employee must be accessible to teams in all time zones, with the bulk of responsibilities aligned to Eastern and Central Time Zone schedules. 
  • Work schedule includes early mornings, evenings, rotating weekends, and occasional holidays. Schedules are subject to change at the sole discretion the ASPCA. 
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 20% annually, as needed. 

 

What You’ll Do 

 

Responsibility buckets are listed in general order of importance. They include, but are not limited to:  

 

Staffing & Engagement   

  • Build relationships with 35+ staff and contingent drivers; collaborate with management to support drivers with day-to-day operations, resolving issues, and ensuring alignment with transport schedules 
  • Execute full-cycle recruiting processes for the extended workforce, in partnership with the Senior Manager, Performance and Engagement, including scheduling, candidate communication, interview coordination, and onboarding logistics 
  • Maintain and update training materials within the Learning Management System (LMS), track completion, follow up on compliance gaps, and implement updates based on identified needs 
  • Support execution of engagement initiatives, including recognition and team activities, to promote team cohesion and inclusivity 
  • Provide administrative and operational support to Senior Manager on employee-related matters, including incident reporting and performance documentation, in collaboration with People and Legal teams. 

 

Resource Management & Administration  

  • Directly manage day-to-day workflows including payroll, staffing, data management, safety compliance, and documentation to ensure smooth and compliant workflows 
  • Manage allocation and utilization of resources, including supplies, inventory, and transport assets, to support safe and efficient program execution  
  • Drive operational consistency by maintaining SOPs, improving workflows and reporting, tracking expenses, managing centralized invoicing, and flagging irregular expenses to the Vice President; serve as the primary liaison with Accounts Payable 
  • Support senior leadership during disaster response and cross-department work, including communication, travel coordination, and resource deployment  
  • Provide coverage and back-up support for management, stepping into key roles or workflows as needed, and independently making real-time decisions to support active transport; occasionally serve as a backup driver and be available for cross-team coordination and to deploy to cases and disasters 
  • Cross train with other members of the department to ensure operational continuity 

 

Planning & Administration 

  • Develop and deliver internal communications in partnership with leadership, including VP-level updates and department messaging  
  • Anticipate roadblocks and present actionable solutions 
  • Manage sensitive and confidential information  
  • Develop and manage digital content and materials to support communication, training, and engagement initiatives  
  • Manage documentation, reporting systems, and compliance tracking to ensure accurate and accessible records across program areas  
  • Serve as a liaison across teams and functional areas (staffing, logistics, vehicles, inventory), driving alignment on planning, staffing communication, and cross-functional coordination 
  • Plan and execute logistics for meetings, training, and events, including vendor coordination and expense tracking; lead the planning committee for the department’s annual Face-to-Face event 
  • Coordinate meetings, including agenda development, materials preparation, documentation of discussions, and tracking of action items and follow-up

Education and Work Experience 

 

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent professional experience required   
  • 3+ years of professional experience required;  
  • Experience supporting hiring including interviewing candidates and making recommendations on their candidacy required; experience onboarding staff and/or workforce coordination (e.g. scheduling staff) highly preferred  
  • Experience in animal welfare and animal sheltering preferred 
  • Experience managing invoicing, expense tracking, payroll, or other financial functions including working with accounts payable and reconciling discrepancies, required 
  • Experience organizing meetings, taking notes, and providing summaries and action items required 
  • Act as the subject matter expert for team software including Canva and Airtable; prior experience with Canva (or equivalent software) used to create digital and/or print materials) required; prior experience with Airtable (or equivalent software used to collect/manage data, track workflows, create automations or dashboards, or manage tasks/projects) required

 

Additional Information 

 

  • Must obtain Fear Free® certification within 60 days of hire  
  • Must complete ICS certifications (IS-100, 200, 700, 800) within 90 days of hire 
  • Role requires physical activity, including lifting up to 50 lbs. with assistance, long-distance driving, and animal handling 
  • Able and willing to drive approximately 650 miles over the course of a day  
  • Able to push, pull and lift equipment and crates up to 50 pounds  
  • Able to provide a valid driver’s license upon hire and pass a motor vehicle history check demonstrating a safe driving history  
  • Able to obtain and provide a Department of Transportation Medical Certificate  
  • Willing and able to provide all documentation necessary to complete a Driver Qualification File pursuant to DOT and FMCSA requirements in order to drive a Commercial Motor Vehicle with a GVWR of 26,000 pounds or less 
  • Work environment may include exposure to animals, cleaning agents, noise, and outdoor conditions
