What’s the role?
The Manager, Refractive Accounts will lead the Refractive Account Managers (RAMs) who conduct specialized technical training and provide support to customers in a clinical and/or surgical environment. The focus will be to foster a customer-centric organization where consistent, high-quality post-sale training support is supplied to both internal and external customers. Establish mechanisms, from start to finish, that set the stage for successful achievement of this goal. Provide first line medical, clinical applications and sales support, including onsite support for the Zeiss Laser Platform in the US marketplace.

Here’s what you’ll do:
Manage, mentor, and train the Refractive Account Managers to ensure consistent alignment with organizational goals and performance standards.
Direct, counsel and develop the Refractive Account Managers toward improving their performance of job-related duties. This is to include scheduling of their time, expense control, customer satisfaction, training excellence methodology, surgical outcomes, and business development.
Drive procedure volume growth by educating clinical staff how to sell the benefits of Zeiss products over other competitive platforms.
Provide expert-level clinical and technical support to surgeons on ZEISS refractive products ensuring optimal product utilization and surgical outcomes.
Maintenance comprehensive training materials and programs to support ongoing education for internal teams.
Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing, sales, product management, and other departments to ensure training content is current, clinically relevant, and aligned with ZEISS product innovations.
Instruct participants in both classroom lectures and laboratory sessions at regional and national meetings.
Interface with internal and external customers and functional organizations to develop specifications for content of courses.
Represent Zeiss at industry trade shows, conferences, exhibits, seminars, and wet labs as needed.
Identify and understand customer clinical needs for using other Zeiss products and influence purchasing decisions.
Do you qualify?
Bring a minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience as a Clinical Applications Specialist, specifically with refractive laser technologies.
Demonstrate prior leadership experience in supervising or managing a team of Clinical Applications Specialists in clinical or surgical settings.
Exhibit expert-level knowledge of refractive procedures, including SMILE, flap creation, intracorneal ring segment (ICR) implantation, and keratoplasty techniques using the VISUMAX platform.
Possess comprehensive understanding of MEL excimer laser ablation procedures, including treatment planning and execution.
Maintain current certifications and training in femtosecond and excimer laser procedures, with the ability to support clinical applications confidently.
Display strong foundational knowledge of general ophthalmology, including common clinical concerns and surgical workflows.
Utilize excellent communication and instructional skills to guide, educate, and support customers in high-pressure surgical environments.
Apply advanced understanding of diagnostic and surgical tools, including visual fields, lensometry, refractometry, IOL calculations, and retinal imaging technologies.
Exhibit strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and manage tasks with minimal supervision.
Demonstrate outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a wide range of audiences and professional levels.
Proven ability to manage challenging situations while fostering effective, respectful relationships with both internal teams and external clients across all organizational tiers.
The annual starting base salary for this position is $130,000 plus sales commission.
