As Carbon Robotics's Mechanical Engineering Manager, you will provide technical and business leadership and oversight while also developing and maintaining the infrastructure (organizational structures, tools, training, etc.) the ME team needs to succeed. You will be laser focused on ensuring your team can successfully architect, design, test, and sustain the primary structure, mounts, enclosures, powertrains, actuated mechanisms, and much more that form the backbone of our robotics systems. You will also coordinate heavily with the Electrical Engineering team as well as Software Engineering, Program Management, Manufacturing, and Field Support teams to ensure seamless integration and rapid delivery to market.
This role reports to the Director of Hardware Engineering. You will collaborate with the Engineering leadership team to develop and deliver on capability and product innovation roadmaps. Above all, you'll do whatever it takes, including travel to customer farms and our manufacturing facilities, to ensure our customers have safe and reliable products that meet or exceed their expectations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities for Success:
- At least 3 years experience managing and growing a mechanical engineering team that has developed, deployed, and maintained serially produced complex integrated mechanical systems (preferably robots)
- Significant experience with both structural and powertrain system design, build, test, and production
- Experience with actuated systems, thermal management, enclosure design, and harsh environment protection
- Experience developing basic analysis scripts and automation tools
- Capable of operating as a Lead Engineer in your respective expertise area as needed
- Extensive experience working with TPMs to manage resources and priorities across multiple projects while maintaining quality and on-time delivery
- Experience working with a workflow management tool such as Jira and an internal documentation tool such as Confluence
- Ability to develop and mentor (both hard and soft skills) for new grad, early career, and mid-career engineers
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a desire to work in multidisciplinary organizations
- Ability to travel for field visits to farms and our Richland manufacturing campus. Expected travel around 10% of the time but able to do more travel during first article build and testing.
