Summary
The Manager of Fraud - Payments is responsible for safeguarding both our users and the organization by leading efforts to detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent activity across all payment channels.. This position, along with the team that they manage, is responsible for investigating fraud and suspicious activity concerning debit cards, credit cards, digital banking, payments, and electronic services.
This position plays a vital role in safeguarding revenue and minimizing losses through risk analysis, collaborative problem-solving, and ensuring a secure use experience through real-time transaction monitoring. The Manager of Fraud - Payments will supervise a team of fraud prevention specialists, driving operational excellence through process optimization, performance management, and proactive risk mitigation.
Key Responsibilities
The essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Oversee daily fraud monitoring across card networks, digital payments, and electronic services, ensuring timely identification and escalation of suspicious activity.
- Leverage internal tools, third-party platforms, and data analytics to track fraud patterns and emerging threats.
- Develop and maintain fraud detection rules, velocity checks, and risk models in collaboration with engineering and payment processor partners.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Product, Compliance, Finance, and Support teams to implement fraud safeguards, identify automation opportunities, and assist with urgent reviews and escalations.
- Monitor external fraud patterns, regulatory developments, and industry trends to guide process and policy updates.
- Liaise with internal compliance partners to ensure all fraud prevention measures comply with applicable laws, regulations, and standards
- Establish clear team objectives under the direction of the Senior Manager of Fraud and manage performance through coaching, QA reviews, and regular 1:1s.
- Coordinate staffing schedules, holiday/overtime coverage, and ensure adequate operational support.
- Oversee bi-annual performance reviews of payment specialists, provide development plans, and build succession paths for high-performing team members.
- Assist in developing training programs, documentation, and playbooks to ensure consistency and knowledge transfer across the team.
Required Qualifications and Key Competencies
- Bachelor’s Degree or 2+ years of experience in finance, fraud analysis, or compliance
- Deep understanding of the financial services payment landscape, including network rules, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
- Proven ability to develop, test, and implement fraud detection rules and strategies using commercial fraud platforms.
- Experience with Payment Gateways, Processors, and e-commerce payment platforms (Fiserv, BluePay, Stripe, Nuvei, or similar)
- 2+ years of experience as a Manager and/or managing people
Preferred Skills
- Experience in a FinTech or high-growth financial institution environment
- Experience with Industry Fraud tools (ie AML, SAS)
- Experience with KYC tools like Veriff or similar
- Experience with Quality Assurance reviews

New Hire Base Salary Range
- $90,000-$100,000
- Bonus: This position is eligible for a performance-based bonus as provided by the plan terms and governing documents.
- The compensation offered will take into account internal compensation structure and may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
