Manager - Datacenter Infrastructure

The Datacenter Infrastructure Manager will lead and develop a team of Datacenter Engineers responsible for delivering server and network capacity across Fastly’s globally distributed infrastructure.

This role partners closely with Engineering, Network, Systems, and Supply Chain organizations to ensure datacenter deployments are executed efficiently, safely, and in alignment with broader platform and product requirements. The ideal candidate brings strong operational leadership, technical fluency, and the ability to translate engineering intent into reliable, repeatable execution at scale.

You will be responsible for prioritizing day-to-day operational work, establishing clear documentation standards, and driving continuous improvement across processes, tooling, and deployment workflows. Success in this role requires a strong understanding of datacenter architecture and technical functions, including server hardware, networking fundamentals, power and cooling constraints, and high-density deployment models.

As a player-coach, this role maintains hands-on technical credibility while enabling the team to operate independently and at scale. The Manager is expected to understand and guide work across core datacenter activities such as hardware installation, cabling, cross-connects, power allocation, rack elevations, bills of material, validation and deployment documentation. Prior experience supporting server and network deployments, as well as contributing to tooling or automation requirements, is strongly preferred.

This position requires a leader capable of operating in a globally distributed environment; managing priorities across time zones, coordinating multiple parallel initiatives, and ensuring consistent execution against delivery commitments. The team is expected to operate autonomously for routine execution while collaborating cross-functionally to resolve complex issues, support escalations, and continuously improve operational maturity.

We are seeking a strong communicator who values transparency, accountability, and ongoing development — someone who invests in growing both technical capability and leadership capacity within their team.

Join Fastly in helping build and scale the infrastructure that powers the brands behind the best of the web, by driving execution excellence, strong engineering partnerships, and scalable deployment practices across our global network.

What You’ll Do:

  • Recruit, develop, and retain a high-performing team of Datacenter Engineers, defining clear KPIs aligned to organizational goals, establishing training plans for new hires, and providing ongoing mentoring, coaching, and career growth paths for existing team members.
  • Provide leadership and strategic guidance across day-to-day datacenter operations, planning, and execution, including oversight of onsite installs, break-fix activities, workload prioritization, project sequencing, and resource allocation to consistently meet internal and external SLAs.
  • Own team execution and operational readiness by reviewing daily reports, proactively identifying risk and capacity constraints across global PoPs, and adjusting priorities, schedules, travel plans, and use of third-party services for deployments and preventative maintenance.
  • Oversee tooling, documentation, and process rigor, ensuring effective use of Jira for workload management and that technical leads create, maintain, and publish high-quality SOWs and SOPs for DCI and cross-functional or third-party consumption.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for complex infrastructure, hardware, and system issues, working cross-functionally with other team leads and managers to drive root cause resolution and prevent recurrence.
  • Partner closely with Capacity Planning, Procurement, Technical Project Managers, and Infrastructure Acquisition teams to define scalable processes, SLAs, and deployment strategies that minimize risk and protect delivery timelines.
  • Provide strategic oversight and accountability for network connectivity, including BGP architecture and routing strategy across the CDN backbone, datacenter interconnects, peering, and upstream circuits, ensuring resiliency, availability, and effective failover.
  • Drive adoption of automation to reduce manual effort and operational risk.
  • Partner with Engineering to:
    • Automate hardware validation and acceptance testing, improve workflows and standardize validation checks
    • Define and maintain validation frameworks for network connectivity and port validation and hardware health and firmware compliance
  • Own the end-to-end circuit lifecycle, establishing standards and governance for circuit procurement, provisioning, turn-up validation, SLA compliance, carrier escalation, and operational handoff across teams.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Ability to lead and execute effectively with a distributed team
  • 5+ years of direct involvement in supporting datacenter operations at an Internet Service Provider (ISP), hosting provider, or other datacenter-oriented position or equivalent
  • 3+ years leading a remote-friendly engineering or operations team
  • Expert-level knowledge of power and network cabling standards including but not limited to NEMA, IEC, and/or ANSI/TIA.
  • Strong expertise with BGP configuration, routing policy design, and managing live WAN/CDN circuits.
  • Expertise with hardware from HPE, Dell, Arista, and or Cisco.
  • Experience with infrastructure validation and network connectivity.
  • Experience with the JIRA issue tracking system or other similar system
  • Able to read and write English installation documentation (documents/drawings/spreadsheets)
  • Knowledge of safe working practices (e.g., familiar with proper tool safety, eye protection, ladder safety, etc.) and able to document practices
  • Able to work days/nights/weekends/holidays, if needed and/or required
  • Able to travel up to 15% of the time
  • An innate curiosity and inquisitiveness

Work Hours:

  • This position will require you to be available during core business hours. It may also require occasional nights and weekends as necessary to support any on-call coverage.

This position has one opening. It is open to hybrid and remote work locations:
