Job Description
The Manager, Commercial Insurance Product & Data Science is responsible for leading the design, execution, and optimization of commercial lines products by combining product management expertise with advanced analytics and data science. This role manages the full product development cycle. Idea generation, test design and execution, product implementation, and market roll-out—while ensuring differentiated coverage offerings, intuitive quoting experiences, innovative pricing strategies, and interpretable underwriting models.The Manager will work with a cross-functional team of product and data science professionals, leveraging predictive modeling and advanced analytics to drive profitable growth, improve risk selection, and enhance customer experience. This role sets direction, develops talent, and ensures product and pricing strategies align with organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead product development initiatives across the full lifecycle, from concept through implementation and market launch, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
- Manage and develop a team with expertise in commercial insurance products, risk selection, pricing, analytics, and project execution.
- Define and track KPIs to measure success and provide transparency into product and business performance.
- Conduct market, competitor, and risk analysis to inform pricing, underwriting, and product design strategies.
- Drive the use of predictive modeling and machine learning to support rating, underwriting, and portfolio management, ensuring results are actionable and business-friendly.
- Review and communicate modeling approaches and outcomes to stakeholders, translating technical results into clear business implications.
- Partner across functions (distribution, underwriting, claims, technology) to identify and implement new products, programs, and distribution opportunities.
- Introduce and evaluate new tools, data sources, and modeling techniques to improve decision-making and operational efficiency.
- Establish and maintain a product roadmap and future-state vision, driving alignment across teams and functions.
- Apply disciplined project management practices to deliver multiple initiatives on time and with measurable impact.
- Mentor, coach, and train team members to build technical and leadership skills.
Experience & Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in commercial insurance, product management, actuarial science, or data science, with success leading cross-functional initiatives.
- Solid expertise in commercial lines product development, underwriting, and pricing.
- Strong knowledge of statistical modeling, machine learning, and predictive analytics, with proven application to insurance business challenges.
- Ability to communicate complex analytical insights clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated record of driving profitable growth through product and pricing innovation.
- Proficiency with analytical/programming tools (e.g., Python, R, SQL, SAS) and modern data platforms.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
