The Advisory Engineer, Software DSBC is a senior technical professional responsible for contributing significantly to the design, testing, development, and support of system-level solutions. This role provides technical direction and leadership in developing integrated system products. Decisions in this role directly impact project success, financial performance, schedules, and customer satisfaction. Work is performed with limited direction, and results are reviewed upon completion.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Owns multiple components or highly complex components within a software product or solution.
  • Solves complex software engineering problems using sound judgment within company standards, policies, and practices.
  • Ensures design and code development incorporate modern technologies and efficient use of resources.
  • Makes recommendations on priorities, design changes, enhancements, and issue resolution.
  • Defines, evaluates, and implements software alternatives to maximize efficiency and customer satisfaction.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for complex product issues related to mainframe software.
  • Provides leadership to project teams and leads major planning activities to ensure timely, cost-effective development.
  • Accountable for delivering team or departmental results, often involving cross-functional collaboration.
  • Drives decisions that have a direct impact on customer satisfaction, cost, quality, and delivery timelines.
  • Provides ongoing technical guidance and leadership for software development initiatives.
  • Executes established software development processes and proposes improvements when appropriate.
  • Participates in setting objectives that align with evolving business needs.
  • Contributes to organizational goals; failure to deliver may result in significant business impact requiring additional resources.
  • Ensures accurate and comprehensive project documentation is maintained.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications (Education & Experience)
  • Deep professional experience in software development, system/product design, and integration—ideally within mainframe environments with 5 years of strong Mainframe Development experience.
  • BS degree in Engineering or related field required.
  • Strong, hands-on experience with Mainframe development (IBM i / IBM z) and Assembler is highly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Broad application of engineering principles, concepts, and methods, with knowledge of related technical fields.
  • Strong understanding of software development, product usage environments, and system integration.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and drive technical decisions.
  • Effective communication skills, including interaction with management, customers, and occasionally executives.
  • Strong analytical thinking, creativity, and judgment in developing software solutions for complex requirements.
  • Experienced in improving development tools, processes, and procedures.
  • Recognized as a technical authority within the team or department.
  • Ability to contribute to a high-performance, collaborative team culture.
  • Ability to maintain clear, concise written communication and thorough documentation.
Working Conditions, Mental & Physical Demands
  • Must be able to manage job-related stressors and maintain acceptable performance standards.
  • May work in environments with exposure to dust, fumes, or other agents following regulatory or industry guidelines.
  • Flexible and adaptable to business needs, including occasional travel, overtime, and managing multiple concurrent tasks.
  • Ability to learn new tools and systems quickly and take full ownership of assigned tasks.
  • Must maintain positive working relationships and be open to diverse perspectives.
