You will write everything from breaking news on legal developments to longer term enterprise stories that attorneys and their clients care about. You will be the tip of the spear on our biggest stories on litigation, the courts, and the practice of law. You will drive coverage on national trends and highlight key federal, state and local developments.

What you will do:

  • Report and write news articles and breaking news alerts, often on deadline. 

  • Cover news as it happens, live and in person, including at courthouses, state legislatures, and other strategic locations within your assigned region.

  • Pitch, develop and write analytical pieces and feature stories on complicated subjects like tax and legal developments, making them accessible to readers 

  • Demonstrate knowledge of federal and state legislative, regulatory, and judicial processes. 

  • Establish strategic relationships with sources, editors, news desk, etc. etc. 

  • Serve as a resource for other correspondents and Washington based reporters. 

  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.   

You need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree with coursework in English or journalism preferred. 

  • 3-7 years’ experience in journalism, including daily reporting experience or demonstrated reporting proficiency and news judgment. 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of journalism principles and techniques.

  • Knowledge of federal and state legislative, regulatory, and judicial processes. 

  • The ability to cover events live as they happen and meet with sources in person within the location being covered.   

In compliance with local pay transparency laws, the salary range for this position is $52,500 to $86,000 annually. Final compensation will be based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors.
