Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Specialty Engineering Manager to lead the delivery of a next-generation, cloud-based risk modeling platform. This leadership role is ideal for an experienced engineering leader with a passion for cloud-native architectures, modern platform engineering, and building high-performing teams in a regulated environment.
In this role, you will lead senior engineering teams responsible for delivering core capabilities across the model risk lifecycle, including model development, validation, governance, monitoring, and reporting. In this role, you will:
- Manage, coach, and develop engineering managers and senior engineers responsible for building high-quality capabilities using modern technologies.
- Ensure adherence to Banking Platform Architecture standards and non-functional requirements across releases.
- Partner with architects and senior engineers to align solutions with Wells Fargo Technology strategies, including cloud readiness, application modernization, and data strategy.
- Act as the technical representative for products during cross-team planning and collaboration.
- Identify and drive resolution of complex technology issues across code, build, deployment, and security standards.
- Serve as an escalation partner to scrum masters and delivery teams, removing obstacles and supporting delivery of moderate to high-risk initiatives.
- Engage hands-on in the codebase, including peer reviews and design guidance, to ensure solution quality and alignment to technical direction.
- Ensure security, stability, scalability, and resilience of platforms while identifying, managing, and mitigating technology and enterprise risk.
- Collaborate with Product Managers and Product Owners to shape roadmaps, influence priorities, and advocate agile and DevOps practices.
- Partner with third-party vendors and technology service providers, as needed.
- Manage allocation of people and financial resources to meet delivery commitments and strategic objectives.
- Hire, develop, and retain engineering talent; lead performance management and foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
- 7+ years of Specialty Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of work experience, training, military experience, or education.
- 7+ years of experience in the financial services industry.
- 3+ years of management or technical leadership experience.
- 3+ years of experience with Python.
- 3+ years of experience working in distributed computing environments (GCP preferred).
- Strong expertise in Python and Python-based modeling workflows, including CI/CD, automated testing, reproducibility, and model governance.
- Experience designing and operating large-scale, distributed compute platforms supporting batch and interactive workloads.
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms and hybrid architectures; working knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies.
- Strong architectural skills with an emphasis on scalability, reliability, security, and resilience for mission-critical platforms.
- Solid understanding of financial modeling and risk management concepts, including familiarity with regulatory frameworks such as CCAR, CECL, and stress testing.
- Proven experience leading and developing high-performing engineering teams in complex, enterprise-scale, and globally distributed environments.
- Ability to set and communicate a technical vision while remaining engaged in architecture, design decisions, and engineering standards.
- Experience partnering with cybersecurity, governance, risk, and product stakeholders to deliver secure-by-design solutions.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to translate complex technical topics to executive, risk, and regulatory audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to balance innovation with risk discipline while fostering a culture of engineering excellence and continuous improvement.
