Serve as the primary administrator of Denver Health Foundation's (DHF) private foundation grants, including prospect research, grant applications and reporting. Develop and maintain strong relationships with DHF private foundation funders and prospects, and with Denver Health departments.
Essential Functions:
- Grants Management (20%)
- Grant prospect research: Research private foundation prospects for the development of prospect lists; Field inquiries from and conduct exploratory meetings with Denver Health program staff regarding potential grant funding opportunities; Research statistics, trends and data relevant to Denver Health / DHF activities. (10%)
- Grant application process: Coordinate grant proposal development and submission – prepare, edit and organize materials for grant proposals; staff site visits; and monitor the grant application process. (10%)
- Grant award processing: Oversee the processing of incoming grant award packages and ensure the timely execution of related grant contracts/agreements; Draft thank-you letters and other key funder correspondence. (10%)
- Grant reporting and compliance: Collaborate with Development Associate to draft and edit compelling progress reports; Assemble and submit supporting materials including budget reports, outcome measurements, and success stories; Routinely reconcile accounts with Denver Health’s internal systems (i.e., SPARO, Legal, Grant Accounting); Support other Proposals, Distribution, and Evaluation activities; Build and maintain relationships with key Denver Health and external partners (10%)
- Funders and prospective funders – serve as the primary point of contact with a portfolio of funders; Denver Health programs and Principal Investigators – routinely communicate about funding needs and opportunities. (10%)
- Denver Health supportive services – SPARO, Legal, Grants Accounting – maintain courteous and respectful relationships (10%)
- Record-keeping: Routinely update grants management/donor database system with relevant information, action taken, next steps needed, etc. (10%)
- Create monthly reports on grants’ and projects’ status. (5%)
- Participate actively in Proposals, Distribution, and Reports team meetings (5%)
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree Concentration in the social sciences, English, Communications, Nonprofit Management, Business or Public Administration, or a related field Required
- Master's degree Preferred
Work Experience:
- Six years of grant application and/or grant report writing experience with private foundations, corporations, or federal agencies required. Required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Superior written communication skills; ability to write clear, well-structured, persuasive proposals; strong editing skills; insistence on highest level of quality
- Excellent interpersonal skills with all constituents – tact, poise, diplomacy, courteousness, professionalism. Clear demonstrated capacity for managing VIP relationships
- Discretion handling sensitive and confidential information
- Extensive knowledge in proposal writing; familiarity with funder research techniques and private foundations
- Commitment to systems improvement
- Ability to resolve, not just communicate, emergent challenges
- Ability to build effective processes to address external and internal needs
- Appetite for professional development
- Team player in highly collaborative decision-making environment
- Ability to work with large amounts of data, to analyze and interpret data, detect errors, and prepare reports.
