YOUR MISSION

About the Organisation & Role:

You will be part of the Consumer Experience Engineering organisation responsible for building fast, intuitive, accessible and premium digital experiences across web and mobile. The organisation owns the web & mobile platforms, engineering delivery for consumer-facing journeys, shared design systems, performance, accessibility and AI-native engineering practices that help product teams deliver consistent, reusable, high-quality consumer experiences across the globe.  

The Lead Engineer (Mobile) is responsible for defining mobile architecture, leading engineering execution, and delivering scalable, reliable, accessible, and high-performing consumer-facing applications across iOS and Android platforms.

What you will do:

  • Lead the architecture, design, development, and evolution of large-scale consumer-facing mobile applications.

  • Define mobile engineering standards, architectural principles, reusable patterns, and development best practices.

  • Provide technical direction for React Native solutions across iOS and Android platforms.

  • Design scalable, modular, maintainable, and reliable mobile application architectures.

  • Guide teams on mobile application lifecycle management, release readiness, store distribution, and production support.

  • Define mobile security and privacy engineering standards, including secure storage, authentication integration, data protection and third-party SDK governance.

  • Evaluate architectural trade-offs and make pragmatic decisions aligned with product and engineering goals.

  • Partner with Product, Design, Architecture, Quality Engineering, and Platform teams to deliver optimized consumer journeys.

  • Establish engineering patterns for state management, API integration, offline capabilities, caching, and error handling.

  • Drive mobile performance engineering across application startup, rendering, network utilization, memory, and responsiveness.

  • Lead integration of mobile applications with commerce platforms, APIs, content platforms, analytics, and third-party services.

  • Ensure mobile experiences meet WCAG accessibility standards and inclusive design principles.

  • Partner with design teams to develop reusable components and evolve mobile design systems.

Support experimentation, feature flagging, A/B testing, and data-driven optimization of consumer journeys.   

YOUR TALENT
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience with significant expertise in mobile application development.

  • 3+ years of experience leading a technical capability, project or engineering team.

  • Strong hands-on expertise in React Native and modern TypeScript/JavaScript development.

  • Deep understanding of iOS and Android fundamentals, platform capabilities, and mobile application lifecycles.

  • Strong experience with mobile build, signing, release, distribution, and application store processes.

  • Proven expertise in frontend and mobile system design, application architecture, and engineering patterns.

  • Strong understanding of state management, API integration, caching, offline-first, and synchronization patterns.

  • Experience integrating native iOS and Android modules into React Native applications.

  • Proven experience in optimizing startup time, rendering, memory utilization, network efficiency, and application responsiveness.

  • Strong understanding of mobile asset delivery, caching, network efficiency and content delivery considerations.

  • Understanding of consumer journeys, conversion optimization, personalization, and digital experience quality.

  • Practical knowledge of WCAG standards, mobile accessibility, and inclusive experience engineering.

  • Experience with experimentation platforms, feature flags and A/B testing.

  • Strong understanding of design systems, reusable component libraries, and mobile UX engineering principles.  

  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, technical leadership, stakeholder management, and decision-making skills.

  • Proven ability to drive architectural decisions, influence technical direction and mentor engineers.

  • Experience using coding agents, LLMs or AI-assisted engineering tools to improve software delivery and developer productivity.

  • Experience in eCommerce, retail, or consumer digital products is strongly preferred.
