At Hopscotch Primary Care, we believe great healthcare should be accessible to all people across all communities. Today, almost 20% of Americans live in a rural community, yet only 11% of physicians practice in those same communities. We are on a mission to transform healthcare in rural America. We provide high-quality primary care tailored to meet the needs of our patients through our robust care model and comprehensive care team, delivering care in our clinics, and across settings, and wrapping resources around the patients who need them most.
Our patients and the care teams who serve them sit at the center of everything we do at Hopscotch. Hopscotch Primary Care takes a team approach to serve patient needs and provide the best care possible. Our goal is to provide the care each of us would want for ourselves or for our family members, in the right setting, and at the right time.
Today, we are serving thousands of patients in our value-based care model and the number is growing every day. If you want to bring your experience, skill and passion to make a lasting impact in healthcare, we’d like to meet you.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a Lead Data Engineer (remote) to own and evolve the backbone of our data platform. This role is for a hands-on builder who thrives at the intersection of data engineering, software architecture, and pragmatic problem solving. You’ll design and scale the systems that ensure our data is trustworthy, accessible, and ready to power everything from day-to-day operations to next-generation AI applications. This role will report to the Director of Engineering. While this is not a people manager role, you will serve as a technical leader on the team, mentoring junior engineers, raising the bar on engineering fundamentals, and helping shape the long-term direction of our data ecosystem. You will be part of a skilled, passionate, and collaborative team committed to working together to realize Hopscotch’s ambitious and important vision.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own our data platform: architect, build, and maintain our data model, data pipelines, and data access layer that support our care delivery, operations, and analytics.
- Ensure data quality & governance: implement practices that make our data trustworthy and usable for all stakeholders, from clinicians to operators.
- Monitor and optimize data infrastructure: troubleshoot issues, improve system performance, and drive efficiency through automation and process enhancements.
- Lead with technical depth: review code, mentor engineers, and set engineering best practices across the team.
- Think big picture: design today’s infrastructure with tomorrow’s needs in mind, laying the foundation for advanced analytics and AI.
- Be hands-on: flex across the stack, from backend data engineering to occasional contributions in frontend applications that bring data to life.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams: work with product managers, analytics, operations, and care delivery stakeholders to translate business needs into scalable data solutions.
ABOUT YOU

- Accountable, holding yourself, and others, to a high standard
- Supportive of teammates and aim to share knowledge with others
- Willing to roll up your sleeves to get work done and collaborate effectively with people of all backgrounds
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
