What you'll be doing:
As a Java Engineer on the MyHealtheVet (MHV) Backend team, you will lead the development and support of mission-critical systems that facilitate secure communication between millions of Veterans and their healthcare providers. You’ll play a key role in building, maintaining, and modernizing microservice-based REST APIs and legacy Java applications while ensuring seamless integration across VA infrastructure systems.
You will collaborate closely with product owners, scrum teams, and VA stakeholders to design scalable solutions using Java, Spring Boot, AWS, and Liferay. Your work will directly impact Veterans’ ability to access care, manage secure messaging, and interact with VA health services in a secure, efficient, and user-friendly environment.
What you’ll bring:
- 2–5 years of backend software engineering experience
- Strong proficiency in Java and experience building backend services using frameworks such as Spring Boot
- Experience designing and developing secure RESTful APIs
- Experience working with relational databases such as Oracle
- Familiarity with cloud environments, preferably AWS
- Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing frameworks (e.g., JUnit, Mockito)
- Understanding of secure coding practices and application security fundamentals
- Experience working in Agile development environments
- Performs other related duties as assigned

Compensation:
At Oddball, it’s important each employee is compensated competitively and fairly. In alignment with state legal requirements. A range for the included position is listed below. Be advised, actual offer details are determined by job category, job location, and candidate skill level.
United States Wage Range: $90,000 – $130,000
