Who We Are

General Medicine is building a healthcare store that makes it radically simpler and more transparent for people to access care. We provide upfront cash and insurance prices for visits, prescriptions, labs, imaging, and more.

We're a lean, fast-moving team and we're building this function from scratch. There's no playbook yet - you'll write it.

About the Role

This is General Medicine's first IT hire. You'll own the full IT function end-to-end: systems administration, vendor management, device lifecycle, security operations, and compliance groundwork.

This is not a delegator role. You'll be hands-on from day one, setting up systems, auditing our SaaS stack, locking down our security posture, and building the processes that scale with the company. You're the kind of person who finds a broken process and fixes it before anyone asks.

What the Work Looks Like
  • Own and administer all company systems: Rippling (IAM, MDM, Inventory Management), Google Workspace, SSO, and our full SaaS portfolio (~50 tools and 6 internal applications)

  • Act as internal help desk resource, supporting our team with a range of IT needs

  • Centralize and manage vendor procurement, software renewals, license management, and BAA inventory

  • Build and enforce IT policy: acceptable use, onboarding/offboarding, access controls, and device standards

  • Manage the full device lifecycle - provisioning and shipping new hire equipment, coordinating retrieval from departing employees - via Rippling Inventory Management

  • Lead security operations: deploy and manage endpoint protection, run phishing simulations, and own our security awareness training program

  • Conduct an initial HIPAA compliance audit and engage an external auditor to formalize our risk assessment

  • Lay the documentation and controls groundwork for security and compliance programs

What We're Looking For
  • 7–10 years of IT experience, with demonstrated breadth across systems administration, security, and vendor management

  • Startup experience required. You've built IT infrastructure before, not just maintained it

  • Healthcare and HIPAA experience required; security experience (endpoint protection, risk assessments, awareness training) strongly preferred

  • Experience supporting hybrid and remote teams required; marketplace or healthtech experience preferred

  • Hands-on with MDM platforms, IAM, Google Workspace administration, and SaaS management

  • Highly organized, high ownership, and comfortable operating without a lot of structure around you

Strong Fit If You
  • Get energized by building systems from scratch and leaving things better than you found them

  • Love helping people in real-time

  • Can context-switch between big-picture thinking and fixing a broken laptop policy in the same afternoon

  • Have strong opinions about how IT should work at a company like ours — and the experience to back them up

  • Are genuinely excited about the problem we're solving in healthcare

Why Join General Medicine
  • You'll be the first IT hire - high ownership, high visibility, and a direct line to leadership

  • Clear product-market fit and strong investor backing

  • A chance to help build the operational infrastructure of a company redesigning how people access healthcare
