We seek a hands-on and solutions-oriented IT Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day management of our IT infrastructure in a dynamic, resource-lean environment. As a small organization with a large on-premises footprint, this role will be critical in ensuring operational continuity, security, and scalability across a diverse tech stack. The ideal candidate brings technical expertise and operational leadership and is comfortable rolling up their sleeves while setting direction for systems performance, support, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage, maintain, and optimize a hybrid IT environment that includes Windows Server, Office 365, VMware virtualization, and select Linux systems.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for IT issues and incidents, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
  • Oversee daily IT operations, including systems monitoring, backup and recovery processes, network performance, and user support workflows.
  • Lead and mentor one IT Specialist, providing technical guidance and ensuring high service levels.
  • Implement and enforce IT policies, procedures, and best practices related to security, patch management, and access management.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand technology needs, prioritize projects, and deliver IT solutions that support company goals.
  • Manage vendor relationships and procurement for IT-related hardware, software, and services.
  • Develop and maintain system documentation, asset inventories, and knowledge bases.
  • Ensure data protection, compliance, and business continuity through regular risk assessments and recovery planning.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of progressive IT experience, including at least 1–2 years in an infrastructure or operations leadership role.
  • Strong technical background in Windows Server environments, Microsoft 365 administration, VMware infrastructure, and Linux system support.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex IT environments with limited resources.
  • Proven experience managing small teams or mentoring junior IT staff.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a focus on customer service.

Preferred:

  • Experience in small to mid-sized companies where IT roles span multiple domains.
  • Exposure to network management, cybersecurity tools, and cloud integrations.

Work schedule: Monday through Friday

As required by Colorado law under the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, DirectDefense provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in Colorado. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors, including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. For the state of Colorado only, the range of starting pay for this role is $110,000 to $120,000 per year.
