Who We Are
Prowess Consulting is a consulting firm that specializes in helping the largest enterprises in the technology industry define, manage, benchmark, and market their solutions and services. We take great pride in investing the time and effort to gain a deep understanding of our clients’ technologies, their customers, and the stories and strategies they need to tell to be successful in the market. Our team of technology and marketing experts is immersed in the technology trends that affect our clients’ businesses, so we can add value at every stage of engagement to help them succeed.
We are a technology consultancy, and our own people are technical. They expect internal technology to be fast, well designed, and secure by default. This role reports to the CISO and leads a small team, with latitude to shape that team as the work grows. You will own the function end to end budgeting, vendors, hiring, the internal platforms our people build on, and a named set of security and compliance controls.
Who You Are
Prowess Consulting is hiring a dynamic and forward-thinking IT Manager to lead our internal technology operations.
To be considered for this role, you must reside in one of the following states: Alabama, California, Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia, or Washington.
This is a full-time role that can be worked remotely, however, collaboration with teammates centered in the Pacific time zone will be essential. No third-party agencies, please.
The Role and Responsibilities
Much of that work runs on an internal platform we are building to serve the help desk and IT side of the organization as well as the people building on it. The technology side of it belongs to this role: who may call what, which credential each connection acts as, and what is allowed to run unattended. A key function of the role is using this platform to enable end users to work in the “Frontier” style, very quickly building and operating their own apps and rolling them out to their teams securely. This role will also have a hand in where the platform goes next.

- Leadership of the help desk function for a distributed workforce across two primary sites (Washington, USA and Ahmedabad, India) and remote workers around the world, including service expectations the business can hold us to.
- Microsoft 365 administration: Entra ID, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, Intune, Purview and Defender.
- Identity and access administration: on/offboarding, access changes, group and role design, privileged access controls.
- Endpoint fleet: procurement, build standards, configuration, patching, recovery and disposal.
- Vendors, contracts, licensing and assets: renewals, third-party risk review, and a clear picture of what we own and what it costs.
- Business continuity for internal systems: backup, restore testing, documented recovery expectations.
- Security operations: vulnerability monitoring and remediation, logging, and an incident response process you have rehearsed, not just written.
- Projects and documentation: upgrades, improvement initiatives, and standards that let someone else run this without you.
- Infrastructure as code, version control and repeatable deployment as normal practice.
- A safe, documented path for teams to run what they build, and a reasoned no when it does not fit.
- You must have fluency with at least one formal control framework, and the judgement to tell a control's intent from its paperwork.
- You should be able to demonstrate identity-centered thinking: least privilege, scoped access, risk minimization.
Much of that work runs on an internal platform we are building to serve the help desk and IT side of the organization as well as the people building on it. The technology side of it belongs to this role: who may call what, which credential each connection acts as, and what is allowed to run unattended. This role will also have a hand in where the platform goes next.
- You must have a hands-on familiarity with modern AI tooling, and an active interest in how fast it is developing.
- The role will be frequently faced with requests that carry risk, so you must possess the instinct to describe what safe would look like rather than to refuse it or wave it through.
Expect to talk about:
- A technical decision you would make differently now, and what changed your mind.
- How you decide whether to buy something, run it yourself, or decline the request.
- An internal tool that needs to reach a real system on someone's behalf. What would safe look like, and how would you decide?
- Entirely cloud-hosted, with only minimal lab hardware.
- A Microsoft organization: Azure and Entra underpin identity and infrastructure.
- ISO 27001, SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA obligations, GDPR in scope.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or a related field highly desired.
- The person for this role will have progressively responsible IT experience.
- This IT Manager will have experience managing small teams, vendors, projects, and technical teams.
- Experience supporting corporate IT infrastructure and business applications.
- Experience leading system implementations, migrations, upgrades, and operational improvements.
- Experience with M365 administration, ISO, SOC, and GDPR required.
- Experience implementing generative AI or automation solutions.
- The offered pay range for this position is $140,000 - $185, 000 per year depending on experience.
