As an intern, you will join a highly collaborative R&D team developing and supporting analytical instruments that integrate optics, fluidics, electronics, automation, and software to deliver high‑confidence scientific insights.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
Mechanical & Electromechanical Design
Assist with mechanical component and subsystem design, including CAD modeling of assemblies used in prototype instrumentation.
Support the design and modeling of test fixtures for validating components and subsystems in life‑science instruments.
Fluidics, Optics & System Integration
Contribute to development and refinement of fluidic assemblies, optical components, and small motion mechanisms.
Assist with prototype assembly, debugging, and performance characterization during system integration activities.
Testing, Experiments & Data Analysis
Execute mechanical, thermal, and fluidic tests on prototypes and existing designs following documented procedures.
Acquire and analyze experimental data to evaluate precision, repeatability, and reliability of subsystems.
Documentation & Engineering Support
Create and maintain engineering documentation including CAD revisions, test reports, and development notes.
Present findings and recommendations to engineering teams and participate in design reviews.
The essential requirements of the job include:
Undergraduate student entering final year of a Mechanical Engineering (or related) bachelor's program.
Experience with CAD tools such as SolidWorks or CREO.
Strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles (statics, dynamics, materials, fluids, thermodynamics, etc.).
Demonstrated teamwork, communication skills, and ability to collaborate effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
Hands‑on experience with prototyping, machining, 3D printing, or assembly.
Familiarity with Python, MATLAB, or similar tools for data acquisition and analysis.
Exposure to optics, microfluidics, sensors/actuators, or lab automation.
Experience documenting engineering work in structured formats (drawings, test logs, reports).
Familiarity with Biological Lab safety expectations and basic equipment (microscope, centrifuges, pipettes)
