Job Summary:

Socure is a leading platform using predictive analytics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning for online identity verification and fraud prevention. Socure’s Privacy Legal team maintains the highest standards of privacy and data protection for our customers and their end users. We are seeking a dynamic and motivated law student to join our Legal team as a Privacy Intern for Summer 2025. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in privacy law and make a meaningful impact on our organization’s privacy initiatives. The internship is fully remote, requires a commitment of 40 hours per week, and is compensated at $20.83 per hour based on a 12 week internship. Start and end dates are flexible.

Job Responsibilities: 

As a Privacy Intern, you will work closely with our legal team, playing a pivotal role in supporting our privacy compliance efforts. Your responsibilities may include:

  • Research and Analysis: Conduct research on privacy and data protection laws and regulations relevant to our industry, tracking legislative developments and industry best practices. Analyze the impact of these laws on company operations.

  • Privacy Policy Review: Assist in reviewing and revising our privacy policies to ensure compliance with relevant laws. Identify areas for improvement and recommend changes.

  • Privacy by Design and by Default: Provide risk-based guidance to incorporate privacy best practices throughout the product development lifecycle.

  • Privacy and Data Protection Impact Assessments: Participate in assessing privacy implications of new projects, products, or services. Help develop mitigation strategies to address privacy risks.

  • Data Subject Requests: Manage data subject requests in accordance with applicable data protection laws, ensuring timely and compliant responses.

  • Vendor Due Diligence: Review and analyze risks associated with third-party vendors handling personal information.

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with product, engineering, compliance, and security teams for a holistic approach to privacy and data protection.

  • Legal Support: Provide general legal support to the legal team as needed, including contract review and legal research on various topics based on candidate interest and business need. Past topics have included intellectual property, commercial contracts, and corporate development.

Job Requirements:

  • Enrolled in an accredited law school program.

  • Strong interest in privacy and data protection laws and regulations, including CCPA and GDPR.

  • Excellent research, analytical, and communication skills.

  • Detail-oriented and able to work independently.

  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.

  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Generative AI, and legal research tools.

Each quarter, the Privacy Legal team provides a newsletter to senior leaders across the company, including Executives, Product Managers, Engineers, Data Scientists, Designers, Sales, and Marketing teams. The newsletter focuses on interesting and/or impactful developments in privacy, consumer protection, or AI legislation, regulation, or enforcement. In 150 words or less, please write a paragraph suitable for the newsletter that discusses an interesting or impactful development in privacy or data protection occurring within the past three months.
