The Opportunity

The Corporate Communications intern will support the Thought Leadership Creation group while collaborating with Public Relations and Marketing Communications. This role offers hands-on experience in corporate communications strategy and the opportunity to transform complex concepts into clear, engaging content. The Corporate Communications Intern will gain exposure to corporate communications strategy and thought leadership development, hands-on experience creating content for multiple channels and audiences and opportunities to collaborate with cross-functional teams and learn how marketing, PR and content strategy intersect. They will also gain practical skills in project management, research and editorial processes, insight into how complex business concepts are transformed into compelling narratives for external audiences, and professional development through mentorship and networking with experienced communications professionals.

Day in the Life

  • Writing across multiple formats:

    • Long-form content such as blogs, white papers and thought leadership pieces requiring research and collaboration with subject matter experts

    • Short-form content such as social media posts, operational communications, promotional copy and press releases

  • Research industry topics and leverage insights to support content development

  • Collaborate across the Marketing & Communications department and other business units (including Product, Emerging Services, Advisors Plus)

  • Assist with project and time management, including prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines using tools like Monday.com and Microsoft applications

  • Support targeted communication initiatives through data and email list management in partnership with the MarCom team

We offer the opportunity to build for your future by learning about the financial services industry — more specifically, the credit union industry — firsthand through professional inter-organizational experience, coupled with focused learning opportunities in your chosen career

path or developmental interest. You’ll also gain insight into our rich history, our unique culture and our committed social conscience.

Over the course of this 11-week program, which runs June 1–Aug. 14, 2026, it is Velera's goal to provide our interns not only with a real job experience that better prepares future graduates for their chosen profession, but also to provide them with the knowledge and experience vital to navigating a business environment.

In our program, interns will engage with a group of their peers to acquire a knowledge foundation in credit unions, the financial industry, Six Sigma, job search preparation, presentation skills and more. You will also have the opportunity to network directly with industry leaders at Velera.

Velera Intern Program Entry Qualifications

  • Enrolled in an accredited undergraduate degree program – upperclassmen and graduate students preferred.

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate thoughts completely and concisely.

  • Strong organizational skills, with attention to detail and the ability to consistently perform as per business requests.

  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration skills.

  • Ability to adjust easily when directions and priorities change on short notice.

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite®, experience with project management tools like Monday.com is a plus.

  • Strong writing and editing skills with attention to detail and familiarity with AP style.

  • Ability to research and distill complex topics into clear, compelling content.

  • Proficiency in software that applies to your major and function-specific internship.

  • Passion for learning the credit union industry.

Pay Equity

$21.00 - $22.00

Actual Pay will be adjusted based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
