Job Description:

This role is designed for a strategic, embedded market and competitive intelligence professional—not a request-driven report generator. The Market & Competitive Intelligence Manager will work shoulder to shoulder with an Analytics Manager and Client Feedback Manager under a new team lead to develop a deep, evolving understanding of the firm’s priority clients, their businesses, and the competitive landscape. The primary objective is to identify growth opportunities, risks, and strategic implications for the firm by translating market and competitive signals into clear, actionable insight.

This individual will help shift intelligence from reactive research to proactive advisory, influencing business development, client strategy, and firmwide decision-making.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

These essential functions are primary job duties that incumbents must be able to perform unassisted or with some reasonable accommodation.

·       Serve as a strategic intelligence partner to analytics and client feedback colleagues, jointly framing questions, shaping hypotheses, and identifying where intelligence can unlock new client or market opportunities.

·       Conduct in-depth research on priority clients, prospects, industries, and competitors using subscription databases, financial filings, press releases, industry reports, and other public sources—with an emphasis on interpretation, not compilation.

·       Continuously monitor market trends, regulatory developments, and competitor activity to surface implications for client demand, competitive positioning, and firm strategy.

·       Move beyond one-off requests by anticipating intelligence needs, developing forward-looking points of view, and proactively bringing insights to stakeholders.

·       Apply strategic frameworks (e.g., SWOT, market sizing, competitor benchmarking, whitespace analysis) to synthesize disparate signals into clear recommendations and strategic options.

·       Design and manage research agendas—including client profiles, competitor dossiers, market and industry briefings, and thematic analyses—aligned to business priorities rather than ad hoc inquiries.

·       Partner closely with business development, marketing, and practice group leaders to understand their goals and translate intelligence into practical guidance for pursuits, account planning, and client conversations.

·       Identify and prioritize the most decision-relevant insights, balancing rigor with speed to support real-time business needs.

·       Support strategic pursuits, client meetings, and firmwide initiatives with tailored, high-impact intelligence that informs positioning and messaging.

·       Measure and articulate the business impact and ROI of intelligence efforts, demonstrating how insights contribute to client growth, pipeline development, and strategic decisions.

·       Prepare concise, executive-ready presentations and written deliverables that clearly communicate findings, implications, and recommended actions.

·       Perform other duties, as assigned.

SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED

·       Strong skills in secondary research, data analysis, and the ability to translate findings into strategic insights.

·       Proven ability to distinguish between interesting information and decision-critical intelligence for both internal and external stakeholders.

·       Experience using research tools commonly employed in law firms or professional services (e.g., LexisNexis, Westlaw, Bloomberg Law, PitchBook, Capital IQ, Preqin, IBISWorld, Mergermarket).

·       Comfort working with data visualization or business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) in partnership with analytics colleagues.

·       Excellent communication skills, with the ability to prepare and present polished deliverables for senior audiences.

·       Highly organized and adaptable mindset, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams in a dynamic, collaborative environment.

SPECIFIC SKILLS PREFERRED

·       Experience working directly with lawyers, practice group leaders, or client development professionals.

·       Exposure to strategic planning, competitive positioning, or business development in a law firm or professional services setting.

EDUCATION, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE

·       Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, international relations, library/information science, marketing, or a related field.

·       4–7 years of experience in competitive or market intelligence, research, or strategic analysis, ideally within a professional services or law firm environment.
