At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

Blue Origin is seeking a highly experienced Level 5 Integrated Stack Lead Systems Engineer to join our Lunar Permanence team. In this critical senior leadership role, you will serve as the technical authority for all the physical configurations of the vehicles that dock together (Lander, Transfer Stage, NASA visiting vehicles, etc.), understanding the details of those configurations throughout the mission within the Human Landing System (HLS) Boots program. You will own the end-to-end systems engineering responsibility for how these configurations are defined, documented, and verified, serving as the primary technical interface between configuration management, design engineering, and Integration & Test (I&T).

Your work will directly determine how Blue Origin's lunar architecture comes together physically and functionally, from first mating to mission readiness. You will partner closely with the Program I&T Lead to ensure that all vehicles and their integrated stack requirements have a clear and traceable path to verification, whether through test, analysis, or a combination of both. This is a highly visible role that demands technical depth, leadership maturity, and the ability to drive consensus across a complex, multi-vehicle program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical authority and systems engineering lead for all integrated stack configurations within the Lunar Permanence program
  • Own the definition, documentation, and configuration management of all Boots stack configurations, ensuring accuracy and traceability across all program phases
  • Develop and maintain integrated stack requirements, ensuring they are properly allocated, tracked, and baselined in the program requirements management tool (Jama Connect)
  • Partner with the I&T Lead to develop and maintain a comprehensive verification approach for integrated stack requirements, ensuring each requirement has a defined verification method (test, analysis, inspection, or demonstration)
  • Review and approve integrated stack Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and ensure interface definitions are current, accurate, and reflected in CAD/CREO models
  • Interrogate and leverage CREO Parametric models to evaluate stack configurations, identify integration risks, and support design trades
  • Lead configuration-level trade studies to evaluate impacts of design changes across multiple stack variants and recommend disposition
  • Identify and track integration risks and incompatibilities across stack configurations; develop mitigation strategies and drive resolution across functional teams
  • Collaborate with vehicle element leads, structural, mechanical, avionics, and GN&C teams to ensure integrated stack performance meets mission requirements across all configurations
  • Represent the integrated stack in program-level reviews, including SRR, PDR, CDR, and associated I&T readiness reviews
  • Mentor and guide junior systems engineers on stack integration principles, verification planning, and configuration management best practices
  • Drive technical consensus across functional teams on integrated stack decisions, including configuration freezes and change dispositions

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field
  • 12+ years of experience in systems engineering roles within aerospace, defense, or related industries
  • Demonstrated experience as a technical lead responsible for multi-element or multi-vehicle system integration
  • Hands-on experience with configuration management of complex vehicle or system stacks, including managing multiple configuration variants simultaneously
  • Proficiency with CREO Parametric or equivalent CAD tool, with ability to interrogate and manipulate models to support integration assessments and trades
  • Experience developing and executing verification and validation (V&V) plans, including mapping requirements to test and analysis methods
  • Experience working directly with Integration & Test teams to support hardware-in-the-loop testing, stack assembly, and test readiness reviews
  • Strong background in Interface Control Document (ICD) development and management
  • Demonstrated ability to drive technical decisions and achieve consensus across large, cross-functional engineering teams
  • Excellence in technical communication, including presenting complex integration challenges and solutions to senior leadership

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with human spaceflight systems, launch vehicles, or NASA HLS/Artemis program requirements
  • Familiarity with GD&T principles and their application to integrated stack mechanical interfaces
  • Experience with requirement definition and verification management using Jama Connect
  • Familiarity with NASA systems engineering processes, including NPR 7123.1
  • Experience supporting CDR-level technical reviews and associated verification closure activities
  • Background in one or more analysis disciplines (structural, thermal, GN&C, performance) as applied to integrated vehicle stacks
  • Experience with system modeling tools and practices
  • Experience with multi-vehicle docking or mating interface management (e.g., Orion, ISS, else)
  • Master's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field
