NEXT is investing heavily in becoming a one-stop-shop for all small businesses’ insurance needs and Workers Compensation plays a huge role in achieving that goal. In this highly strategic role you will sit at the intersection of underwriting, technology and business strategy. The role is responsible for Workers Compensation product development and running scalable processes for maintaining a high-quality Workers Compensation Product. 


Our team efficiently manages our Workers' Compensation (WC) product, optimizing scalable processes to ensure its quality and integrity. We lead the annual rate revision process, meticulously evaluating market conditions, actuarial data, and regulatory changes, and incorporating necessary forms revisions for compliance. We also develop and maintain our Underwriting Instrument, utilizing automated monitoring to ensure our rates, questionnaires, decline criteria, and policy documents function as intended. 


What You’ll Do:

  • Own scalable processes to maintain the integrity and quality of our WC product by applying a deep understanding of NCCI and independent rating bureau manuals and rules to ensure accurate class code assignments and premium calculations.
  • Oversee and integrate product changes from annual rate revisions, including rate, class, and form updates. 
  • Collaborate, coordinate and streamline our annual rate revision process; evaluate and incorporate forms revisions as needed.
  • Provide Workers Compensation underwriting knowledge to write detailed requirements for improvements in automated underwriting and portfolio management. Provide performance metrics and automated monitoring of rates, rules, declines, and documents.
  • Ensure that complex state regulations and NCCI manual rules are translated into clear, unambiguous technical requirements while preserving the tone of our user interface.
  • Partner with Legal and Engineering on automated compliance solutions.  
  • Collaborate with our Filings team on product amendments and own working relationship with WC rating bureaus.
  • Build clear and efficient processes for our customer service and production teams to understand our product offering and resolve issues.

What We Need:

  • 3+ years of experience in a workers compensation product function that required a detailed understanding of NCCI and Bureau classification, Rate Rule and Form filings, Policy Analysis, Regulation review, Compliance, preferably at a top tier carrier.
  • Strong ability to design structured and efficient processes.
  • Clear, structured communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Passionate about changing the industry & making a difference in the lives of small business owners across the US.
  • Technical ability to manage and drive engineering projects preferred.
  • Knowledge of Pay as you go is preferred
  • Preference will be given to candidates with understanding of AI principles and experience with AI tools.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, MBA preferred.

The range displayed on this job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including, without limitation, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. NEXT employees are eligible for our benefits package, consisting of our partially subsidized medical plan, fully subsidized vision/dental options, life insurance, disability insurance, 401(k), flexible paid time off, parental leave and more.

US annual base salary range for this full-time position:
$125,000$165,000 USD
