  • Principal Architect – Insurance Platform Architecture

    This hands-on Insurance Architect will lead the transformation of IPH’s insurance technology ecosystem across all brands, driving modernization from legacy platforms to Skylark (EIS Suite) and enabling advanced rating and pricing capabilities through Earnix. This transformation positions IPH as the world’s largest pet insurance and pet-health provider, delivering scalable, compliant, and customer-centric solutions.

    • Reports to: Chief Architect (Head of Architecture)

    • Partners with: Business Unit Technology Leader, Core Platform Leader

    • Location: Remote/Hybrid – Chicago preferred - 2 days a week in the office.

  • Role Overview

    In close collaboration with business and technology leaders, this role defines and governs enterprise insurance architecture for IPH, ensuring seamless integration of Skylark (EIS) and Earnix into a unified, cloud-native ecosystem. The Insurance Architect will lead multi-phase migration from legacy systems, establish architectural guardrails, and enable automation and AI-driven workflows for policy admin, underwriting, rating, billing, and claims.

    • Skylark Platform Transformation: Drive adoption of EIS Suite as the core insurance platform across all brands.

    • Rating & Pricing Modernization: Integrate Earnix for dynamic pricing and rating strategies.

    • Legacy-to-Modern Migration: Architect phased migration from legacy policy administration systems to Skylark.

    • Compliance & Governance: Ensure SOC 2, PCI DSS, HIPAA, and NAIC compliance across all insurance workflows.

    • AI Enablement: Collaborate with Calandra Data Platform for fraud detection, predictive analytics, and agentic AI-driven claims automation.

  • Key Responsibilities

    • Insurance Platform Architecture (30%)

      • Define and govern architecture for Skylark (EIS Suite) implementation across multiple brands.

      • Architect multi-tenant configurations supporting brand-specific requirements while maintaining enterprise standards.

      • Ensure scalability for 3× growth in policy volume and operational capacity.

    • Integration & Standards (20%)

      • Establish API-first and microservices-based integration patterns for policy, billing, and claims workflows.

      • Enable secure partner and payment ecosystem integrations aligned with compliance frameworks. (Stripe, and JPM)

    • Rating & Pricing Architecture (20%)

      • Integrate Earnix for advanced rating and pricing strategies.

      • Define architecture for dynamic pricing models and real-time rating services.

    • Compliance & Risk Management (15%)

      • Map insurance workflows to SOC 2, PCI DSS, HIPAA, Quebec Law 25, and NAIC standards.

      • Support audits and ensure architectural alignment with regulatory requirements.

    • Strategic Leadership (15%)

      • Develop future-state insurance architecture roadmap aligned with IPH’s digital transformation goals.

      • Partner with business and technology leaders to drive adoption and maturity of Skylark and Earnix capabilities.

      • Champion automation and AI-driven underwriting and claims processes.

  • Technical Requirements

    Required Platforms & Tools

    • Core Insurance Platform: Skylark (EIS Suite)

    • Rating & Pricing: Earnix

    • Integration: Microsoft based - API-first, microservices, service mesh

    • Cloud: Azure (primary), Microsoft ecosystem

    • Compliance: SOC 2, PCI DSS, HIPAA, NAIC, Quebec Law 25

    • AI Enablement: Azure AI, Copilot Studio

    • Dynamics 365 as the CRM integrated to EIS, and all other systems.

  • Preferred Qualifications

    • 10+ years in enterprise architecture; 10+ years in insurance technology.

    • Deep expertise in policy administration systems (EIS or similar).

    • Proven experience in legacy-to-modern migration and multi-tenant architectures.

    • Strong knowledge of insurance processes (underwriting, rating, billing, claims).

    • Familiarity with Earnix and dynamic pricing strategies.

    • Insurance industry experience required; pet insurance experience is a plus.
