About the Role

MagicSchool is seeking an Instructional Designer & LMS Administrator to contribute to the learning experience strategy and implement the technical administration of our professional learning programs. This role blends deep K12 education and instructional design expertise with hands-on LMS ownership, ensuring educators have cohesive, engaging, and scalable learning experiences across synchronous and asynchronous modalities.

You will act as the architect of our learning journeys and the primary administrator of our customer education platform (currently housed in our LMS - Skilljar), partnering closely with Professional Services, Customer Success, Marketing and Product to drive educator activation, adoption, and long-term success.

This role is approximately 60% instructional design and learning architecture and 40% LMS administration and learning operations.

Core Responsibility Area 1: Instructional Design & Learning Architecture

You will support the design and growth of MagicSchool’s professional learning programs, ensuring learning experiences are pedagogically sound, engaging, and aligned to customer journey milestones.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain a scalable learning architecture aligned to onboarding, activation, adoption, certification, and ongoing support.

  • Create interactive, learner-centered, SCORM-compliant courses that translate complex product and pedagogical concepts into practical classroom application.

  • Design learning experiences across modalities, including primarily asynchronous courses, while ensuring alignment across synchronous sessions and blended programs.

  • Establish and maintain instructional design standards, including style guides, templates, learning objectives, assessments, and production workflows.

  • Partner with subject matter experts to develop accurate, high-quality content while maintaining instructional integrity and consistency.

  • Continuously improve learning experiences using learner feedback, engagement metrics, and completion data.

Core Responsibility Area 2: LMS Administration & Learning Operations

You will serve as the primary owner and administrator of the customer education platform (Skilljar), ensuring the platform effectively supports our learning strategy and scales with growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own day-to-day Skilljar administration, including course setup, catalogs, certifications, user management, permissions, and reporting.

  • Configure, maintain, and optimize LMS workflows to support scalability, consistency, and ease of use and maintain LMS integrations (e.g., Salesforce, SSO, data warehouse, etc) in partnership with internal teams.

  • Manage SCORM deployment and maintenance, ensuring reliable tracking and performance at scale.

  • Serve as the internal subject matter expert on Skilljar capabilities, limitations, and best practices and provide guidance to internal stakeholders as needed.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Professional Services, Customer Success, Marketing, and Product teams to align learning programs with customer lifecycle stages, adoption goals, and go-to-market initiatives.

  • Translate customer needs, product updates, and adoption insights into scalable learning solutions.

  • Support internal enablement efforts with learning content, LMS expertise, and reporting insights.

Skills & QualificationsInstructional Design Expertise
  • Strong command of instructional design methodologies and adult learning theory, with the ability to apply them pragmatically.

  • Proficiency with modern authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline, Articulate Rise, Adobe Captivate, or similar.

  • Exceptional writing, editing, and visual design skills for digital learning.

  • Experience designing learning programs that drive measurable behavior change, adoption, or skill development.

LMS & Technical Skills
  • Hands-on experience administering an LMS, including configuration, integrations, user management, and reporting.

  • Strong understanding of SCORM standards and experience implementing SCORM content at scale.

  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret learner data and translate insights into learning improvements.

  • Comfort troubleshooting technical issues and collaborating with technical or data partners.

ExperienceRequired
  • 2–5 years of experience designing digital learning experiences for adult or professional audiences.

  • Experience in education, EdTech, or K–12 environments.

  • Demonstrated experience owning or administering an LMS (beyond content upload).

  • Working knowledge of HTML/CSS for LMS or content customization.

  • Experience building and launching customer-facing or partner training programs with measurable outcomes.

  • Experience partnering with subject matter experts to develop technically accurate learning content.

Nice to Have
  • Direct experience administering Skilljar.

  • Experience designing or managing certification or credentialing programs.

  • Familiarity with learning analytics or data visualization tools (e.g., Looker, Metabase, Power BI).Experience mentoring or managing other content creators.
