Infrastructure Engineer – Journeyman, Senior & SME

The Opportunity

CACI is seeking Infrastructure Engineers at the Journeyman, Senior, and Subject Matter Expert (SME) levels for the Global Mission Operations Support (GMOS) contract, supporting the Department of State. This role offers a unique opportunity to enhance national security through advanced IT solutions. You will collaborate with experienced professionals in an innovative environment supporting the modernization, deployment, operation, and maintenance of mission-critical applications and infrastructure through an integrated IT Service Management approach.

The GMOS contract provides world-class IT support across a globally distributed enterprise, including infrastructure deployment, technology modernization, virtualization, cloud environments, data center operations, and infrastructure sustainment. Responsibilities

  • Support, lead, or provide technical and management leadership for physical deployment and installation activities involving hardware and software upgrades across worldwide Consular facilities, based on assigned level.
  • Conduct or lead comprehensive site surveys and develop recommendations for facility renovations, infrastructure components, equipment placement, power, cooling, space, and other site requirements.
  • Perform operating system configuration, security fixes, hardening, software installations and upgrades, patch deployment, and one-off application/security deployments during active deployment and sustainment activities.
  • Execute, lead, or establish Hardware Configuration Management (HCM) processes and strategies for designated DT/EA/CST configurable items, maintaining accurate configuration baselines, change documentation, operational readiness, and security compliance.
  • Create, maintain, and/or direct the development of technical documentation for installation and infrastructure activities, including deployment plans, as-built documentation, configuration documentation, SOPs, and post-implementation reports.
  • Coordinate or lead logistics activities with other functional contract elements, including shipping and receiving, inventory management, deployment scheduling, resource allocation, and coordination with distributed teams and site stakeholders.
  • Refine, execute, maintain, and/or establish Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for infrastructure deployments, including periodic reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Leverage DevSecOps tools such as Ansible, Terraform, and SonarQube to automate infrastructure and application processes and develop CI/CD pipelines supporting continuous build, testing, security validation, results collection, and analysis.
  • Support, lead, and/or provide strategic guidance for infrastructure modernization, technology refresh cycles, deployment optimization, and enterprise infrastructure initiatives.
  • Operate and maintain cloud-based infrastructure and solutions, including AWS, Azure, and Oracle environments, as applicable to assigned responsibilities.
  • Operate, maintain, configure, and troubleshoot VMware virtualization environments, including vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter.
  • Administer and support virtual servers, storage environments including SAN/NAS, and virtual networking components such as vSwitches, distributed switches, VLANs, and VMware NSX-T, including logical switching, routing, firewall, and micro-segmentation capabilities.
  • Monitor and analyze infrastructure performance, conduct capacity planning, and optimize resource allocation to prevent bottlenecks and maintain system availability and performance.
  • Configure, test, and maintain replication and backup solutions; administer VM backups and snapshots; and support disaster recovery strategies and activities.
  • Develop and use automation scripts and tools such as PowerShell, PowerCLI, and Ansible for VM provisioning, configuration management, infrastructure administration, and reporting.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure issues across virtualization, storage, networking, operating systems, cloud environments, and system performance, escalating or providing technical guidance as appropriate.
  • Enforce security best practices, manage access controls, and ensure infrastructure configurations align with organizational policies, security requirements, and compliance standards.
  • Conduct and/or support security audits, vulnerability assessments, remediation activities, and infrastructure security improvements.
  • Provide technical support during deployment and infrastructure activities, troubleshooting issues and coordinating with local site contacts, stakeholders, and other technical teams.
  • Apply technical expertise to resolve complex infrastructure challenges and develop innovative methodologies and solutions.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and infrastructure support personnel as appropriate to the assigned level.
  • For Senior and SME-level positions, plan and lead major infrastructure and deployment initiatives, provide technical direction, and supervise technical teams as applicable.
  • For SME-level positions, establish enterprise strategies, methodologies, and technical standards and serve as a principal technical advisor to senior leadership on infrastructure deployment, modernization, and global infrastructure operations.
  • For SME-level positions, provide technical and management leadership on major assignments, establishing strategic goals and plans while supporting methodology selection, resource allocation, staffing, and project execution.

Qualifications

Journeyman Infrastructure Engineer

Required

  • Bachelor's degree and 4 years of experience in related fields such as infrastructure engineering, network engineering, systems deployment, IT implementation, or field engineering; equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Active Secret Clearance.
  • Proven experience with infrastructure deployments, hardware installation, software configuration, and infrastructure support in enterprise environments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of operating system configuration, security patching, system hardening, and Hardware Configuration Management (HCM) processes.
  • Experience supporting physical and virtual infrastructure environments and troubleshooting infrastructure-related issues.
  • Strong understanding of DevSecOps tools and CI/CD pipeline development, particularly Ansible, Terraform, and automation frameworks.
  • Strong coordination and communication skills, with the ability to conduct site surveys, create technical documentation, and collaborate with distributed teams and stakeholders.

Desired

  • Prior experience supporting federal agencies, particularly the Department of State.
  • Experience with international deployments and logistics coordination for overseas locations.
  • Experience with VMware, cloud environments, storage, networking, or data center infrastructure.

Senior Infrastructure Engineer

Required

  • Active Secret Clearance.
  • Proven experience leading large-scale infrastructure deployments, hardware installations, and software configurations across geographically distributed environments.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Hardware Configuration Management (HCM), complex operating system configuration, security hardening, and infrastructure security practices.
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining data center infrastructure, including hyperconverged infrastructure, VMware environments, SAN/NAS storage, and/or Cisco data center switching.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting virtualization environments, including VMware vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter.
  • Experience with virtual servers, storage, virtual networking, backup and replication solutions, and/or disaster recovery technologies.
  • Experience with infrastructure automation and scripting tools such as PowerShell, PowerCLI, Ansible, or similar technologies.
  • Excellent leadership abilities with proven experience planning and leading major infrastructure or deployment assignments, functioning as a technical subject matter expert, mentoring personnel, and supervising technical teams.

  • Demonstrated expertise in Hardware Configuration Management (HCM), operating system hardening, security compliance, and infrastructure modernization for mission-critical environments.
  • Extensive experience with enterprise infrastructure environments, including data center operations, virtualization, hyperconverged infrastructure, VMware, storage, networking, and/or cloud technologies.
  • Strong proficiency with DevSecOps tools and CI/CD pipeline architecture, particularly Ansible, Terraform, and enterprise automation frameworks.
  • Demonstrated experience establishing infrastructure deployment strategies, technical standards, methodologies, and operational processes.
  • Excellent leadership abilities with proven experience directing technical teams, planning and leading major infrastructure initiatives, managing project budgets, and making strategic staffing and resource allocation decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to serve as a principal technical advisor and subject matter expert on infrastructure deployment, modernization, technology refresh, and global infrastructure operations.

The proposed salary range for this position is:

$75,200-$158,100
