About Urban Sky:

Urban Sky is a venture-backed aerospace startup that pioneers utilization of the stratosphere and reimagines the way humans view and analyze the earth. We design, build, operate, and sell stratospheric balloon systems, and the data we collect supports a wide range of applications, from real-time wildfire monitoring to urban mapping. Our technology is also employed by government customers including the Department of Defense (DoD), NASA, and others. Urban Sky sends flight vehicles to the stratosphere on a weekly basis.

Our team consists of engineers, makers, developers, and doers who believe in the power of human potential when passion meets utility within a small, supportive team. At Urban Sky we strive to create a team culture grounded in candor, inclusion, respect and empowerment.

We aim to build the next chapter of stratospheric history in Denver and are seeking self-starting, open-minded, and hard-working team members.

About The Role:

As Urban Sky rapidly scales, our information technology systems are becoming more critical than ever to the success of our missions. We’re looking for an ambitious, hands-on IT Technician to help build and support the foundation of a modern, secure, and reliable IT environment—one that enables our teams to operate quickly, safely, and effectively as we launch stratospheric flight vehicles on a weekly basis.

This role is in a growing IT function and makes a meaningful impact across the company. You’ll work across Tier 1 and Tier 2 support, core IT administration, and the daily operation of systems that directly support engineering, operations, and mission execution. From employee endpoints to enterprise tools to secure network access, your work will help ensure that Urban Sky stays connected, productive, and mission-ready.

Urban Sky supports customers and use cases that demand high trust and strong security. As part of this team, you’ll help maintain the discipline and technical rigor required for high-security and compliance-driven environments, including government standards such as CMMC 2.0 and NIST 800-171, while operating at the pace of an aerospace startup.

Day One Responsibilities:

From your first day, you will focus on being a reliable, responsive point of contact for employee IT needs and helping keep day-to-day systems running smoothly.

  • Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 IT support for employees, including troubleshooting hardware, software, and connectivity issues
  • Support Windows and macOS workstations (Linux familiarity helpful but not required on day one)
  • Assist with employee onboarding and offboarding, including device setup, account provisioning, and access removal
  • Manage and support users in Microsoft 365 (email, accounts, permissions, collaboration tools)
  • Help track, issue, and maintain IT assets (laptops, peripherals, shared equipment)
  • Troubleshoot common networking and access issues and escalate appropriately when needed
  • Document procedures, fixes, and known issues to help build a scalable IT knowledge base
  • Learn Urban Sky’s systems, security posture, and operating environment

Responsibilities You'll Develop Into (Growth Expectations)

As you ramp up and gain familiarity with Urban Sky’s infrastructure, you will gradually take on broader technical and security responsibilities, with mentorship and guidance from the IT Director.

  • Take increasing ownership of IT administration tasks, including user lifecycle management, device configuration, and access controls
  • Assist with maintaining on-site networks, servers, and shared compute resources
  • Support secure authentication, identity management, and endpoint security initiatives
  • Help implement and maintain security controls and documentation aligned with standards such as CMMC 2.0
  • Participate in compliance-driven IT processes, audits, and continuous improvement efforts
  • Contribute to improving IT reliability, documentation quality, and support workflows
  • Support office technology systems such as conference rooms and building security systems
  • Grow toward handling more complex troubleshooting, system changes, and infrastructure projects

This role is designed to grow with the company. The right candidate will be excited to expand their technical depth over time while maintaining a strong foundation in user support and operational excellence.

Qualifications:

  • Certificate, degree (such as CS) or equivalent work experience
  • Technical expertise in IT infrastructure, networking, security, and cloud-based applications (Office365, AWS, Slack, VPNs)
  • Positive, can-do attitude and a willingness to take on projects that would typically be done by larger teams
  • Exposure to high-security networks, risk management and cybersecurity practices typical for secured networks

Nice-to-Haves/Preferred Skills

  • Experience developing IT infrastructure for the US Government
  • Certifications related to cybersecurity and risk management
    • CISSP, CISM etc.

Requirements:

  • Must be US Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Must be located near Denver, CO or willing to relocate to Denver, CO
    • Our office is at 4800 Race St. In Denver, CO and this role is on-site
