Serves as the technical authority for liquid-to-liquid and liquid-to-air heat exchanger design, sizing, optimization, deployment, troubleshooting, and lifecycle management. Performs heat transfer, thermodynamic, fluid dynamic, and CFD analyses; selects materials and heat exchanger types; investigates thermal incidents and performance degradation; and collaborates with engineering, quality, procurement, and operations teams. Reviews proposals, supports vendor qualification, ensures compliance with requirements and safety standards, and contributes to current and future R&D efforts.
Job Description
The Heat Exchanger Subject Matter Expert (SME) is the technical authority on liquid-to-liquid and liquid to air heat exchangers, including the design, optimization, deployment, and troubleshooting of liquid cooling heat exchanger solutions. They bridge advanced thermal engineering theory with heat exchanger manufacturing experience, field execution and lifecycle management. Engagement will be for near term and future R&D efforts.
Key responsibilities include:
- Understand the industry landscape and product types, including relative performance, manufacturing methods and relative costs for different design options
- Heat transfer analysis - apply advanced thermodynamics to validate system heat balances, fluid dynamics, and calculate log mean temperature differences.
- Determine optimal heat exchanger sizing based on fluid properties (e.g., density, viscosity, thermal conductivity), flow rates, desired heat transfer performance and specify preferred heat exchanger types.
- Utilize industry-standard software and CFD tools to model thermal performance, flow and pressure drops.
- Act as the technical authority on heat exchanger technical solution.
- Select appropriate materials to prevent corrosion, erosion, and fouling.
- Lifecycle Management & Troubleshooting
- Lead investigations into thermal incidents, fluid leaks, or performance degradation to reduce downtime.
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, procurement and operations teams to execute program objectives.
- Review technical proposals, ensure compliance with project requirements, and assist in proposal assessment and vendor qualification.
- Ensure all designs and operations meet industry standards and stringent safety protocols.
Basic (Required) Qualifications
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Exceptional technical writing and presentation skills, with a proven ability to translate complex technical information into actionable engineering solutions.
- 5-7+ years of relevant Heat Exchange experience.
