The Business Development team helps drive growth by turning ideas into real, scalable businesses. We focus on all sides of the Thumbtack marketplace—Customers, Pros, Fulfillment, and Platform & Tools. Our work includes launching new initiatives from the ground up ("0 to 1") and building the playbooks needed to scale those efforts into sustainable revenue drivers. We lead core supply and demand programs, including key API partnerships, and act as general managers for these areas. We also bring deep category expertise to help ensure that both customers and professionals have a seamless, reliable experience across the full range of services Thumbtack offers.
About the RoleThe Head of New Ventures is the leader responsible for bringing our “0 to 1” efforts to life. The New Ventures team is responsible for the ideation and incubation of new ideas, and makes bold new bets that will unlock the next stage of growth for Thumbtack. Partnering with internal and external partners across a variety of teams and verticals, the team is focused on creating value for our customers, Pros, and our Partners, and work relentlessly to meet all of our users wherever they are in their homeownership/property management journey.
What you'll do- Set the vision, strategy, and goals for the New Ventures team
- Serve as a General Manager (GM) to lead cross-functional teams in the ideation, incubation, and delivery of new bets
- Identify new bets and commercial opportunities that will unlock incremental growth for Thumbtack
- Identify, acquire, and collaborate with external partners to deliver net new growth opportunities
- Partner closely with internal teams to build and deliver innovative new products and capabilities outside of our core experience
- 7+ years of experience in partnerships, business development, strategy, and/or management consulting (or comparable experiences)
- Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships (internal and external) and deliver a customer-centric solution
- Strong GM and “owner” mindset with demonstrated strategy, product, ops, and problem solving skills
- Highly flexible and adaptable with the ability to easily pivot, juggle numerous initiatives, while also rolling your sleeves up to get things done
- Technology enthusiast, positively curious, and eager to build and learn
- Proven ability to manage, utilize, and prioritize your time and efforts
- Lead bi-annual planning and secure resourcing to deliver a compelling roadmap
- Lead and develop a high performing team
