Are you passionate about solving complex challenges in the fintech space? We’re looking for talented individuals to join our dynamic startup, backed by Sequoia Capital. We’re building the universal payment layer to unify all currencies—fiat and crypto—so businesses and consumers can transact seamlessly. If you're passionate about creating innovative solutions in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, we want to talk to you.

In this role, you’ll work directly with the founders to establish and lead the legal function at Breeze. From building out our legal and regulatory strategy to supporting product and commercial initiatives, you’ll help shape the legal foundation of our company. This is a rare opportunity to join as the first legal hire and build the legal team from the ground up — shaping our systems, processes, and playing a key role in our strategy and growth.

What You’ll Do:

  • Partner with the leadership team to define and execute our legal and regulatory strategy.
  • Serve as primary legal advisor to the executive team and board of directors.
  • Own all legal matters, including commercial, product, regulatory, and corporate governance.
  • Manage external counsel relationships and regulatory engagements across jurisdictions.
  • Work closely with product and engineering to ensure our offerings comply with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate key commercial contracts, agreements with financial institutions and vendor agreements.
  • Build out internal legal processes and documentation from scratch for efficiency and scale.
  • Recruit and lead a high-performing legal team as the company scales.

What We're Looking For:

  • 8+ years of legal experience, with a strong foundation in payments or fintech.
  • Proven ability to navigate complex regulatory frameworks across multiple jurisdictions, including the US and other countries where we operate.
  • Experience building a legal function from the ground up, or a strong desire to do so as the first legal hire.
  • Familiarity with state licensing, AML/CFT regulations, and cross-border payments.
  • Strong working knowledge of domestic and global privacy and data protection laws.
  • Experience advising senior management on legal and regulatory issues in an evolving regulatory environment for a fast-paced or startup environment.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements.
  • Excellent judgment, with a risk appropriate, but pragmatic and solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Clear communication skills and comfort working closely with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong bonus: Crypto, digital asset or online gaming experience and experience engaging with regulators.

Why Join Us:

  • Competitive salary + equity plan
  • 21 days PTO
  • Flexible benefits: annual medical allowance, productivity allowance, gym membership and wellness subsidy
  • Annual team retreat trip
  • Be part of a team backed by Sequoia Capital with a healthy runway

Our Culture:

  • Fast-paced and dynamic – We’re a growing startup that moves quickly.
  • Tech-driven – We leverage technology to address our users’ biggest challenges.
  • Ownership and communication – We value people who take full ownership and communicate well across teams.
  • Continuous learning – You’ll have the opportunity to work alongside industry experts and enhance your expertise in risk management.

Requirements:

  • Law degree (Juris Doctor or equivalent) from accredited law school and state bar membership.
  • Prior experience in a fast-paced tech company or startup is a must-have.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States of America.
