About the Role

We are seeking a Head of Engineering at Sully.ai to own the evolution of our AI Scribe Agent. You will lead the Scribe engineering team at Sully.ai, owning end-to-end velocity, metrics, and quality for clinical note generation and decision support.
Your mission: Slash latency (note generation, decision support) by at least 50%, build ultra-robust observability and model-selection systems, and deliver flawless, 100% reliable output under high scale and tight deadlines. You’ll fight for engineering best practices, push back where quality is at risk, and set the bar for speed, precision, and operational excellence across the Scribe product stack.

Key Responsibilities

  • Align engineering team priorities by mapping dependencies, timelines, and deliverables.

  • Facilitate and run daily/weekly Scribe standups to ensure progress, remove blockers, and sync cross-functional updates.

  • Oversee and manage the Scribe team’s Linear board, prioritizing and assigning tasks each week for clarity and execution.

  • Operationalize continuous note quality evaluation for improvement.

Hard Requirements

  • Proven Track Record Reducing Latency & Improving Throughput: 5+ years engineering leadership or senior engineering experience.

  • Strong Observability & Metrics Instrumentation Experience: Must have built dashboards, error / alerting pipelines, tracing/logging systems; comfortable selecting and integrating model selection and monitoring tools.

  • System Ownership in Integration & Reliability: Experience owning end-to-end reliability for critical systems (e.g., audio transcription, note output, EHR integrations).

  • Strong Prioritization & Quality Emphasis: Responsibilities include code reviews, bug triage, and enforcing quality guardrails.

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with healthcare standards (FHIR / HL7) and EHR system quirks, although domain knowledge can be learned.

  • Prior exposure to real-time or almost real-time streaming or chunked audio processing / diarization, and converting unstructured speech inputs into structured outputs (e.g., JSON / markdown pipelines).

  • Experience leading teams that integrate with front-end and extension platforms (web, mobile, browser extension) to maintain consistency and crash resilience.

First-Month Focus

  • Own operability of the system: lead all Observability, define Metrics, and drive AI model selection.

  • Launch monitoring alerts for transcription failures to enable rapid incident responses.

  • Reduce average post-visit note editing time to under 2 minutes.

Success OKRs (90 Days)

  1. Ensure 100% reliability in the overall note-generation and support workflow.

  2. Increase the speed of Decision Support workflows by 50%.

  3. Integrate the note evaluation pipeline into weekly CI/CD, analyzing completeness and physician-level errors.

  4. Modernize legacy EHR integrations by refactoring or wrapping outdated systems, adding FHIR/API interfaces, and ensuring interoperability with current workflows.
