Upwind is redefining cloud security. We believe runtime context is the only way to truly protect what's running in your cloud - not snapshots, not static scans, not guesswork. Our platform gives security teams real-time visibility and protection across their entire cloud environment, powered by AI agents that detect and respond to threats as they happen.
We're growing rapidly and our customers include some of the world's largest enterprises. We're not here to play it safe - we're here to build the most important cloud security company of this generation.
The Role
Upwind has a product customers love, a growth trajectory that's hard to ignore, and a team that punches above its weight. What we don't have yet is a brand that matches the scale of our ambition.
You'll own everything that shapes how the world sees Upwind - brand narrative, visual identity, social presence, executive thought leadership, and communications strategy. Your job is to turn Upwind from "that fast-growing cloud security company" into a brand that CISOs, practitioners, and the broader tech community recognize, respect, and want to be associated with.
The best enterprise software brands don't feel like B2B companies - they feel like movements. Think Wiz, Figma, Datadog. That's the bar.
This is a rare blank-canvas opportunity at a company already at scale and growing fast.
Responsibilities:
Brand strategy & identity - Own the brand narrative, personality, and guidelines across every touchpoint. Our thesis: runtime is the context layer that brings everything together. Your job is to make the world believe that. We're warm, playful, and bold - enterprise security doesn't have to feel cold or corporate. Especially as AI becomes the new frontier of cloud security, the brand needs to carry it.
Social media & community - Transform Upwind's social presence from corporate updates into content practitioners actually follow. Build an employee advocacy program that turns 400+ Upwinders into brand amplifiers. Show up authentically where the security community lives - LinkedIn, X, Reddit, Discord.
Executive thought leadership - Build the content machine behind our CEO and 2-3 other leaders. Ghostwrite LinkedIn content (3-5 posts/week), develop rapid-response commentary on breaking news, and target making our CEO one of the most-followed voices in cloud security within 12 months.
Brand moments & campaigns - Own creative direction for major launches, experiential activations, and conference presence. Partner with Field Marketing and Demand Gen to ensure every customer-facing experience reinforces the brand.
Swag - This is a real and a must-win area for Upwind. To win the hearts and minds of prospects, customers, and the community, our swag has to be quality people seek out and want to be part of.
Employer brand - Partner with the People team to build the recruiting narrative and careers experience that match our pace of growth.
Video & content - Leverage video as a primary brand asset - case studies, employee highlights, company snapshots, "road to gold" success stories, and original content that amplifies Upwind's voice.
Brand measurement - Define what brand success looks like for Upwind - share of voice, awareness, branded search, sentiment - and build the muscle to track it without losing the soul of the work to dashboards.
Who You'll Partner With?
Product Marketing, Demand Gen, Field Marketing, PR & Analyst Relations, Sales leadership, the People team, and the executive team. You'll also manage relationships with external agencies, freelancers, and production partners.
RequirementsTechnically fluent. You've spent real time close to product - as a PM, solutions engineer, DevRel, technical PMM, or in an engineering-adjacent role. You can hold a deep conversation with a CISO or a cloud architect because you've actually been in those rooms.
We have a non-obvious belief about this role: the best brand leaders for technical companies have lived close to the product. Exceptional writer and storyteller. You can draft a CEO's LinkedIn post, a brand manifesto, and an event tagline.
- Background in product or solution engineering with a deep understanding of how technologists think
- Experience in brand marketing, communications, or a combined role, with 3+ years in a leadership position
- Track record of building or significantly evolving a B2B technology brand during hypergrowth
- Exceptional writer and storyteller - you can write a CEO's LinkedIn post, a brand manifesto, and an event tagline, and all of them hit
- Experience building executive thought leadership programs that meaningfully grew an executive's public profile
- Strong creative sensibility - you can brief a design team with precision and know great work when you see it
- Experience turning a B2B social presence from "corporate" to "actually interesting"
Nice-to-haves: cybersecurity or cloud infrastructure experience, journalism or agency background, experiential marketing, familiarity with the CISO audience, experience at an Israeli-founded company.
This Isn't For You If
- You need a fully built playbook to execute against. We're inventing as we go.
- You'd rather optimize an existing brand than build one with conviction.
- Ghostwriting 5 LinkedIn posts a week in someone else's voice sounds beneath you. That craft is core to this role.
- You believe brand should sit far from the product. We believe the opposite.
Who You Are
You have taste - you cringe at generic B2B marketing and your portfolio proves you can do better. You're strategic enough to present to the board and hands-on enough to write the social copy yourself. You're opinionated but collaborative, culture-aware beyond just tech, and fast - you know when 95% is good enough and when it needs to be 100%.
Most importantly, you're hungry. You see this as the opportunity to build the brand you've always wanted to build.
Why Upwind
This is a blank canvas on a rocketship. The raw materials for an iconic brand are already here - we need someone who makes it real and pushes us to be even bolder. You'll have a seat at the leadership table, direct access to the CEO, and full ownership of what Upwind looks and feels like to the world.
Why This Role
Upwind is at the rare moment where the product, the team, and the market are all ready - and the brand is the missing piece. You'll have the canvas, the budget, the executive air cover, and the speed of a company that ships. If you've spent your career waiting for the role where craft, ambition, and product depth all line up, this is it.
