The Role

Asteri AI is hiring a Head of AI to define and lead the technical direction of our AI systems as we scale enterprise deployments. This role is responsible for ensuring that Asteri’s AI capabilities are accurate, reliable, explainable, and production-ready, while delivering real customer value.

You will partner closely with the VP of Engineering to translate AI innovation into robust, scalable systems used by enterprise customers. You will set standards for AI quality, evaluation, and system design, while helping build and lead a high-performing AI team.

What You’ll Do
  • Own the technical vision and strategy for AI across the Asteri platform

  • Define and evolve Asteri’s approach to LLM-based systems, including retrieval, agentic workflows, and evaluation

  • Establish standards for AI quality, reliability, safety, and performance in production

  • Partner closely with the VP of Engineering to ensure AI systems are delivered, operated, and scaled reliably

  • Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of AI architectures and pipelines

  • Define evaluation frameworks and metrics to measure AI accuracy, usefulness, and business impact

  • Guide decisions around model selection, prompting, fine-tuning, routing, and cost-performance tradeoffs

  • Stay current with advances in applied AI and translate relevant research into practical product improvements

  • Hire, mentor, and lead AI engineers and applied researchers as the team grows

  • Support enterprise customer conversations around AI behavior, reliability, and system design when needed

What Will Make You SuccessfulMust-Haves
  • 10+ years of experience in AI or ML, applied research, or AI engineering roles

  • Deep hands-on experience building and deploying LLM-based systems in production

  • Strong understanding of NLP, machine learning fundamentals, and modern generative AI techniques

  • Experience designing retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems and agentic workflows

  • Proven ability to evaluate, debug, and improve AI system behavior over time

  • Strong software engineering fundamentals, including Python

  • Experience collaborating closely with product and engineering teams to deliver real-world systems

  • Ability to lead technically while remaining pragmatic and delivery-focused

Nice-to-Haves
  • Experience leading AI teams at high-growth startups or enterprise SaaS companies

  • Background in regulated or security-conscious environments

  • Experience publishing research or collaborating with academic partners

  • Familiarity with ML lifecycle tools and evaluation platforms

  • Experience balancing innovation with enterprise reliability and safety requirements
