The Role:
The Harness Strategy & Virtual Engineering Technical Specialist is a key technical leadership position within the PSDS Electrical Architecture organization. This role is responsible for defining the future of General Motors' wire harness systems-leading the development of architecture strategies and guiding a team of Technical Specialists (TS) to deliver innovative, lower-cost, and higher-performance harness solutions.
This individual will establish and evolve PSDS harness strategy, including physical architecture (e.g., zonal/central compute layout), harness routing and location principles, and modular integration standards. In parallel, this leader will drive the use of Virtual CAE tools to enhance design efficiency, enable early validation, and identify opportunities for cost, quality, and sustainability improvements.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead definition and execution of the PSDS Harness Strategy, including vehicle-level architecture, modular integration, location standards, and system-level optimization to reduce cost and complexity.
- Guide a team of Technical Specialists to translate vehicle program needs into scalable design rules and engineering processes.
- Partner with global architecture teams to ensure harmonized physical layout and harnessing approaches (VIP, Zonal, Central Compute, etc.).
- Collaborate closely with the AVD (Architecture Vehicle Development) team to engage early in vehicle development, ensuring harness strategy and design direction are integrated at the concept phase.
- Maintain and evolve standards and specifications (GMWs/CGs) that govern PSDS physical architecture and interface definitions.
- Drive integration of Virtual CAE tools into the harness development process to:
- Enable faster and more accurate validation of designs.
- Simulate performance, manufacturability, and cost tradeoffs.
- Benchmark against industry standards and competitor systems.
- Support sustainability, ergonomics, and resilience simulations.
- Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to align simulation processes and accelerate early-phase validation.
- Support EA peer review forums, architecture DFMEA ownership, and schematic development for non-production needs.
- Represent PSDS in strategic planning for next-generation tools and digital workflows (e.g., Mentor Capital, eSCI, FIT).
Additional Description
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Computer Science, etc.).
- 10+ years of experience in electrical architecture or wire harness systems, including strategic or systems-level leadership.
- Experience developing or implementing CAE tools in a product development environment.
- Strong background in vehicle electrical architecture, harnessing concepts, and product cost optimization.
- Excellent communication skills with ability to influence across functions and levels.
- Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., UL, IEC), DFMEA/DFSS, and collaborative global team environments.
