Essential Duties/Responsibilities:  

  • Accountable for revenue and gross margin of the assigned product lines. Must achieve financial growth targets set by annual and 10-year board plans. 
  • Manage the Product Managers to ensure successful execution of the assigned product line strategy, including coaching and development of team members.
  • Sets the pricing strategy and executes margin management. Accountable for setting list prices, target prices and discount policies. Develops pricing tools or methodologies for Sales Support to utilize.  Monitors all existing pricing for responsible product lines to ensure pricing is at/above target. Monitors cost escalations and market dynamics for determining price increases as required. Ensures customer contracts are in alignment with product and pricing strategies and participates in annual review processes.  Collaborates with commercial team and FP&A to execute and implement price changes.
  • Defines product value proposition and in collaboration with Sales & Marketing leaders defines the marketing strategy including promotional activities, target segments and markets, and sales channels.
  • Identifies strategic opportunities, risks, unmet needs, and product line gaps. Identifies a pipeline of New Product Development (NPD) ideas and other initiatives for technical, commercial, or operational improvements to existing products that will drive product line growth.
  • Maintains deep understanding of market needs and trends through a variety of external insights. Meets with customers, channel partners, suppliers, and other industry professionals. Attending tradeshows and conferences. Works closely with Sales to obtain additional insights and perspectives from the global sales team. As a standard target, 20-30% of time should be spent in externally facing interactions.
  • Monitors competitor, customer, industry, and supplier activities. Leverages secondary research and market growth forecasts provided by Strategic Marketing Analysts
  • Maintains comprehensive understanding of all technical and operational aspects of the products. Expected to understand end-to-end processes from quote through design and manufacturing. Understands processes, activities, opportunities and challenges faced by each function to be an effective cross-functional leader.
  • Works closely with Applications Engineering and the Advanced Technical Group (ATG) leaders to obtain insights and perspectives on industry trends, regulatory changes, and changes in customer needs. Works closely with Operations leaders to obtain insights and perspective on cost, lead time, quality, raw material trends, potential supply threats, and manufacturing challenges.
  • Analyzes financial, commercial, and operational performance KPIs to derive business insights. Works closely with FP&A business partner and functional leaders on any concerns.
  • Analyzes Salesforce opportunities to obtain insights on pipeline pace versus board plan, potential risks to Operations, requests for new products, and win/loss trends. Provides product-specific feedback to Sales and Integrated Business Planning (IBP) leaders during cross-functional pipeline reviews which they can use to communicate guidance and improve processes for their teams.
  • Develops forward-looking product strategies to grow revenue or gross margin. Prioritizes new products and technical, commercial, or operational product improvement opportunities against risk mitigation needs, ensuring the largest impact to the portfolio.
  • Provides input on potential inorganic growth areas either to fill product line gaps or add substantially different, new product lines that will complement the corporate portfolio.
  • Creates a product roadmap with a well-balanced set of strategic initiatives approved by the Business Unit Director. Communicates the product strategy to the organization, working closely with Sales Directors and functional leaders to secure alignment.
  • Maintains close working relationships with functional leaders, routinely soliciting feedback and alignment on the product strategy. Provides feedback and guidance to functional leaders on their planned initiatives.
  • Participates in the annual corporate Strategic Planning Process to secure commitment from the organization to execute the strategic initiatives. Ensures product strategy is aligned with corporate priorities. Continuously monitors efficacy of on-going strategies and adjusts roadmaps as required.
  • Provides input to the Integrated Business Planning (IBP) team, Sales Directors, and Business Unit Directors for monthly IBP reviews and the annual board planning process.
  • Accountable for the successful execution of the product strategy and strategic initiatives. May delegate Product Managers to execute strategic initiatives, including scoping tactical plans and driving daily activities but must have deep understanding of New Product Development as well as technical, commercial, or operational product improvement or risk mitigation projects to be able to provide coaching or support if Product Manager resource constraints arise.
  • Accountable for providing Product Management support to Sales and Operations functions such as product information requests, order support escalations, and support with functional project initiatives. May delegate Product Managers to execute tactical activities but must be able to provide coaching or support if Product Manager resource constraints arise.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Education/Certifications: 

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in a technical field, preferably engineering, materials science, or chemistry
  • Preferred: Master of Business Administration (MBA) or other advanced degree in a business-related field such as product management, marketing, business analytics or finance

Skills and Experience: 

  • 10+ years of professional experience in product development, engineering, marketing, sales, or a related field.
  • Previous Product Management required. Experience developing and launching products and driving post-launch lifecycle management activities. Ability to provide coaching and mentorship to Product Managers.
  • Strong technical aptitude. The products and applications are highly technical seals, data connectors, or engineered components made from polymer materials. The ability to quickly learn highly technical products and interact with technical leaders at customers is critical.
  • Strong commercial acumen and ability to uncover market needs.
  • Strong business acumen with emphasis on financial and strategic analysis.
  • Strong leadership skills including interpersonal relationship building, collaboration, and team management. Proven ability to effectively align internal and external stakeholders and drive cross-functional teams to achieve results within a matrix organization.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to influence senior leaders and key decision makers.
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of the time.
