About the role:
The Global Marketing Manager - PAYGo Phones would manage the shaping, execution, and optimization of the global marketing strategy for the PAYG mobile phone product line. The role ensures strong brand positioning, demand generation, partner engagement, and coordinated go-to-market execution across multiple countries. This position works cross-functionally with commercial and sales teams, new product development (NPD), digital, communications, and field teams to drive adoption, usage, and revenue growth.
What you would be expected to do
1. Product & Portfolio Marketing
- Lead the global marketing strategy for PAYG phone products, including positioning, value proposition development, and messaging frameworks.
- Translate consumer insights and market research into product features, pricing recommendations, and communication strategies.
- Manage product launch planning and global rollouts in alignment with commercial and product teams.
- Define and maintain brand and communication guidelines for the PAYG phones portfolio.
2. Go-to-Market (GTM)
- Develop GTM toolkits covering campaign messaging, sales enablement, creative assets, and channel activation strategies.
- Coordinate launches across country teams, ensuring consistent execution while adapting to market nuances.
- Enable distributor and retail partner marketing initiatives, including co-branded campaigns and merchandising requirements.
3. Marketing Campaigns & Demand Generation
- Design and oversee integrated campaign plans across ATL, BTL, digital, experiential, and field activation channels.
- Develop performance dashboards to track campaign metrics, sales conversion, and customer lifecycle behaviour.
- Continuously optimize marketing spend to maximize ROI.
4. Digital & Customer Journey Optimization
- Partner with the Head of Digital to drive digital acquisition and engagement strategies for PAYG phones, including social, display, search, influencer, and community marketing.
- Strengthen the user journey from awareness through purchase, onboarding, usage, and renewals.
- Collaborate with the Head of Digital to optimize user funnels across the customer app, USSD, WhatsApp, and emerging mobile platforms for PAYG services.
5. Market Intelligence & Insights
- Conduct consumer segmentation, competitive analysis, and pricing research to inform strategy and positioning.
- Monitor country performance, identify risks and opportunities, and recommend tactical improvements.
- Stay informed on mobile industry trends, emerging technologies, and the evolution of PAYG models.
6. Sales Enablement & Capacity Building
- Partner with the training team to develop training and sales enablement materials (pitch decks, product videos, FAQs, demo scripts).
- Build capability across country marketing managers and field teams to ensure effective product storytelling and customer education.
- Work with customer service teams to ensure clear and accurate communication on product usage and payment processes.
7. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with NPD, Commercial, Training, and CX teams to align on product strategy and customer value.
- Collaborate with the PAYG Phone Commercialisation Head and operations teams to enable forecasting and market prioritisation.
- Engage with Finance to align on marketing budgets, ROI, and business case modelling.
You might be a strong candidate if you have
- Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in Marketing, Business, Communications, or a related field; a Master’s degree or professional certifications in marketing or digital strategy are an advantage.
- 8+ years of experience in product marketing, brand management, or go-to-market execution within telecommunications, technology, or consumer electronics.
- Demonstrated experience operating across multiple emerging markets (Africa and/or Asia preferred).
- Experience in mobile phone marketing, telecom value-added services (VAS), fintech, or mobile money ecosystems.
- Strong understanding of PAYG, microfinance, or subscription-based financing models.
- Excellent communication, storytelling, and presentation capabilities.
- Proven ability to manage complex initiatives and work effectively across cross-functional teams.
- Experience with digital marketing tools, analytics platforms, and performance optimization.
- Experience working within distributor, retail, and field marketing environments.
- Background in fast-paced, high-growth organizations.
