GLOBAL ACADEMIC SALES DIRECTOR
The Director, Global Academic Sales will lead and manage the North American and European Academic Sales organization, with a focus on revitalizing performance and driving adoption across top-tier research institutions, translational centers, and academic consortia. This dynamic individual will be responsible for continued development and execution of a global academic sales strategy, coaching a high-performing team, and partnering cross-functionally to support the company’s revenue growth and transition toward clinical utility. Deep knowledge of oncology translational research and clinical genomics, combined with experience in managing complex sales environments, is critical to success.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Lead, develop, and manage the global Academic Sales team, providing direct oversight, coaching, and performance management for a team of 5-8 individual contributor academic sales executives
- Set clear goals and accountability measures for the team, ensuring execution of territory plans and consistent attainment of company goals and sales targets
- Execute and continually improve a global academic sales strategy aligned with company objectives and revenue goals
- Manage and grow strategic relationships with academic customers and thought leaders worldwide
- Develop and maintain regional and global territory plans, including revenue forecasting, funnel management, and pipeline development
- Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing, product, clinical, and executive teams to align sales strategy and positioning
- Manage third party channel sales relationships and develop strategies to grow revenue.
- Deliver compelling product and application presentations that highlight scientific and commercial value
- Represent the company at academic conferences and events, supporting the team’s visibility and pipeline growth
- Minimum of eight years sales experience in life science tools, including CapEx, with a proven track record of progression and a minimum of three years sales management; international experience preferred.
- Minimum of B.S. Degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Cell Biology or related field; M.B.A., M.S. or PhD with strong scientific experience preferred
- Knowledge of the genomics tools market and technologies including Next Gen Sequencing and related molecular/genomics technologies.
- The ideal candidate will have a strong history of account relationships with key thought leaders in the oncology translational research and clinical genomics space.
- Proven track record building high performing teams and exceeding company goals and sales targets; supporting closing business and maintaining long-term high-level customer relationships
- Excellent management skills, including hiring and coaching top performers to exceed goals
- Must be willing to work from home office and travel up to 60% including regular field sales co-travel in North America and Europe.
The base salary range for this role is $185,000 to $200,000, depending on experience and location. In addition, this role is eligible for an uncapped commission plan ($85,000/yr OTE) tied to both individual and team performance.
