What We're Looking For
Michael Baker International is seeking a GIT Technical Specialist to join our DATAMARK Practice across the US. This role supports NG911 and public safety GIS initiatives by delivering advanced geospatial analysis, broadband and network data evaluation, and technical advisory services that improve data accuracy, system performance, and public safety outcomes. The GIT Technical Specialist will lead complex GIS workflows, evaluate technical documentation and datasets, support indoor mapping and NG911 projects, and develop client-ready solutions that strengthen data integrity and operational effectiveness across multiple concurrent engagements.

What You'll Do
- Deliver advanced GIS analysis and spatial data validation in support of NG911, indoor mapping, and public safety initiatives, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and compliance with client standards.
- Develop and optimize geospatial workflows using ArcGIS, QGIS, and related tools to improve data integrity, automation, and reporting efficiency.
- Evaluate and interpret complex technical documentation, datasets, and infrastructure information to identify risks, inconsistencies, and improvement opportunities.
- Drive quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) processes for GIS datasets, maintaining high standards for positional accuracy, attribution, and schema consistency.
- Lead technical problem-solving efforts across multiple concurrent projects, delivering defensible, data-driven recommendations to clients and internal stakeholders.
- Collaborate with project managers, analysts, and subject matter experts to ensure scope, schedule, and quality objectives are achieved.
- Develop technical memoranda, reports, dashboards, and presentations that translate complex geospatial and network concepts into clear, client-ready guidance.
- Support and mentor junior staff by promoting best practices in GIS analysis, documentation standards, and workflow development.
- Strengthen client relationships through responsive communication, structured analysis, and solution-oriented technical expertise.
What You Need to Succeed
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
- 8+ years of professional experience in GIS analysis, geospatial data management, public safety GIS, or related technical consulting environments
- Advanced proficiency in ArcGIS and/or QGIS, including spatial analysis, geoprocessing, data modeling, and workflow automation
- Experience supporting NG911, public safety GIS, or emergency communications data initiatives
- Strong understanding of GIS data structures, schema design, topology rules, and spatial data validation techniques
- Experience reviewing and interpreting complex technical documentation and infrastructure-related datasets
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop innovative, scalable solutions
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly in written reports and client presentations
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Preferred: Experience with indoor mapping, broadband or telecommunications datasets, or public-sector consulting
- Preferred: Experience in a consulting firm environment managing multiple concurrent projects
Compensation
The approximate compensation range for this position is $89,043 to $128,557. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
