PRIMARY PURPOSE

The Gift Planning Officer for the Western United States shall serve The Navigators and fulfill the responsibilities listed below in the spirit of The Navigators calling, values and purpose: To advance the Gospel of Jesus and His kingdom into the nations through spiritual generations of laborers living and discipling among the lost.

This position will work in partnership with the Senior Director of Gift Planning, Foundations, & Content Creation, other Gift Planning Officers, the Gift Planning, Foundations, & Content Creation team, and the wider Advancement team to effectively implement successful legacy strategies that serve Navigator ministry partners by securing deferred, and current funding for The Navigators priorities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Gift Planning Primary Responsibilities (90%)

  • Facilitates strategies regarding cultivation, solicitation, closing techniques, and some stewardship to meet short and long-term legacy funding goals. Identifies, researches, cultivates, and solicits qualified prospects for planned gifts by actively managing a dynamic portfolio of ministry partners and prospects.
  • Listens to, engages, and disciples gift planning ministry partners to use their gifts of giving toward Navigator missional objectives.
  • Develops a comprehensive understanding of The Navigators’ history, values, ministries, vision, and strategic objectives and be able to communicate these knowledgeably, credibly, and enthusiastically with Gift Planning ministry partners and other Navigator constituents.
  • Develops an annual moves management strategic plan in partnership with the Senior Director of Gift Planning, Foundations, & Content Creation for their territory to engage with and cultivate a portfolio of new and current Gift Planning ministry partners.
  • Participates in and contributes to Advancement Department planning and strategy meetings.
  • Works collaboratively with the Senior Director of Gift Planning, Foundations, & Content Creation, Direct Response, Mid‐Level, Ministry Partner Advisors, Gift Planning and Foundations team members, and ministry partner research/moves management teams to identify and pursue prospective Gift Planning donors.
  • Remains current regarding gift planning trends, educational opportunities, and legal requirements.
  • Travel Required approximately 50% of the time. 

Additional Responsibilities (10%)

  • Attends weekly Gift Planning huddles and other department meetings.
  • Read spiritually and culturally developmental books and literature.
  • Participates in development events such as Navigator on-site events, Cultural Development and Diversity trainings or other non-Navigator developmental events as appropriate.
  • Participates in the annual Plan and Progress Review (PPR) process which includes a self-evaluation and manager evaluation.
  • Submits and maintains regular trip summaries and tracks all ministry partner contact in Salesforce. 
  • Submit expense reports, due the 15th of each month
  • Additional job-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Spiritual: Belief in and adherence to the Statement of Faith and Mission of The Navigators. Knowledge of Navigator Missions and ministries preferred. Lives out a deep, personal, and daily relationship with Jesus Christ which reflects and represents The Navigators’ ministry and values.  Embraces Advancement as a ministry to ministry partners with purposeful intent to be

deeply involved in ministry partners' lives and to discover and cultivate ministry partners’

philanthropic interests.

Experience: At least one year of experience in Gift Planning preferred, including knowledge of gifting options, cultivation, stewardship, and closing skills. Experience in non-profit or financial industry work and knowledge preferred regarding Gift Planning options e.g., Wills, Living Trusts, QCDs from IRAs, Life Insurance, Charitable Remainder Trusts, Charitable Gift

Annuities, Donor Advised Funds, and Charitable Endowments.

Technical Knowledge & Skills: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other database and web-based fundraising tools.

Communication & Leadership: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including verbal & written, to create understanding and build strong working relationships required.

Education: Minimum four-year degree. Fundraising (CFRE) or (CAP) credentials preferred but not required. 

Location: Remote, Hybrid, In-Person. Must live West of the Mississippi River in the United States.

Compensation Range: $70,601.51 - $111,333.20 annual
