Summary:

This is a unique solo-operator position requiring a highly motivated and versatile individual to manage every facet of a local publication (print and digital), functioning as its General Manager, Editor, and Sales Consultant.

There is not an office for this position, however, work in Estes Park is required

What you will do:

  • Editorial & Content: Serve as the chief editor and primary reporter, writing news, overseeing all content creation, producing the print edition, posting content online, and curating daily emails and news notifications

  • Business & Sales: Drive maximum revenue by developing and executing all advertising sales strategies. Manage and conserve expenses to achieve profit directives

  • Operations: Oversee and execute all functions including production, circulation, and final distribution. Analyze monthly financial statements to guide property performance and audience growth across all platforms

  • Compliance: Ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality publications while adhering to all established deadlines and performance standards, working in coordination with Prairie Mountain Media and MediaNews Group management

  • Community Leadership & Representation: Serve as a thought leader and primary representative for the brand with local government, the business community, non-profit organizations, and all constituents

  • Strategic Growth: Collaborate with management to develop and implement strategies that maximize audience, circulation, and advertising revenue across both print and digital platforms

  • Process Improvement: Identify and implement improvements to internal processes to increase productivity and operational efficiency

  • Financial & Administrative Management: Ensure accurate and timely payment of monthly expenses, including payments to contractors, freelancers, and other vendors

  • Lead the charge by assigning, writing and editing compelling stories, ensuring accuracy and adherence to journalistic standards

  • Take charge of news budgets, optimizing resources for effective coverage

  • Dive into local reporting, contributing to the stories in the Estes community

What you will bring:

  • Strong sales skills

  • Journalism experience, AP style knowledge and the ability to quickly compile accurate reporting on a variety of topics; spelling and grammar skills required

  • Strong Excel and Google Docs knowledge (Intermediate or Advanced)

  • Excellent leadership, goal setting, motivation, training, and mentorship skills

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including writing, speaking, and active listening

  • Ability to understand and analyze monthly financial statements and property performance

  • Effective conflict resolution, problem-solving skills, organizational, and time management skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in sales or communications field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered

  • 2-5 years of experience working in a daily newspaper, or previous relevant experience managing a small media company or leadership role

 

Benefits and Compensation:

The annual salary is $62,000 + potential $2,000/month bonus based on EBITDA achievement.
