Nature's Herbs & Wellness | Log Lane Village / Fort Morgan, Colorado
Full-Time | $15.16/hour + tips
Generally 35 hours per week

Nature's Herbs & Wellness is hiring a full-time Front Desk & Customer Service Associate for our Log Lane Village dispensary, located just outside Fort Morgan along I-76.

Front Desk is where most customers begin their visit. You'll greet customers, verify identification, answer questions, assist with online orders and help keep the front of the store organized throughout the day.

This is an entry-level cannabis retail position. Previous dispensary experience isn't required.

Retail, restaurants, hospitality, grocery, reception, banking and other customer-facing experience can all translate well. We're primarily looking for someone who is dependable, communicates comfortably with different kinds of people and can follow procedures consistently.

What You'll Be Doing

Front Desk combines customer service with responsibilities that are important to operating a regulated retail business.

Your regular work will include:

  • Greeting customers and helping them get checked in
  • Verifying identification according to required procedures
  • Following customer-entry requirements consistently
  • Answering incoming phone calls
  • Answering basic questions about the store and our products
  • Helping customers with online orders
  • Checking online orders for completeness and accuracy
  • Communicating with budtenders and store leadership
  • Learning the products and brands we carry
  • Helping customers understand basic product categories
  • Supporting the retail team during busy periods
  • Keeping the Front Desk, lobby and customer areas clean and organized
  • Learning our retail systems and procedures
  • Recognizing situations that need a supervisor's attention
  • Following company procedures and Colorado cannabis regulations
  • Helping with other appropriate retail responsibilities during the shift

ID verification is a particularly important part of this position.

The expectation is that the same verification procedure is followed every time, including for regular customers you've seen before.

What the Job Is Actually Like

This isn't an office receptionist job.

You're working at the entrance of a retail cannabis store where customer service, compliance and store operations overlap.

Some customers know exactly what they want. Others may have questions before they ever reach a budtender. Online orders need to be checked, phones need to be answered and information needs to move between Front Desk and the sales floor.

There will be busy periods where several things need your attention at once.

There will also be slower periods when you're expected to organize, clean, learn products, help with orders and find useful work rather than waiting for the next customer to walk through the door.

The people who tend to do well here are approachable and friendly without losing track of the details.

Schedule

This is a full-time retail position, generally scheduled around 35 hours per week.

The store operates seven days a week, so employees should expect a retail schedule that may include:

  • Opening and morning shifts
  • Daytime shifts
  • Evening and closing shifts
  • Weekends
  • Holidays

Schedules are established according to store staffing and business needs.

Pay and Tips

Base Pay: $15.16/hour + tips

Front Desk employees receive a portion of tips generated by the budtenders working during their shift.

Tips vary according to customer traffic, sales, staffing and shift and are not guaranteed.

The guaranteed wage for this position is $15.16/hour. Any tip amount included in the posting should reflect recent actual experience at this Nature's location.

What We're Looking For

You don't need to already work in cannabis to be a strong candidate.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Enjoys interacting with customers
  • Communicates clearly and professionally
  • Pays attention to details
  • Follows procedures consistently
  • Can handle several things happening at once
  • Remains composed with impatient or frustrated customers
  • Is comfortable learning computers and retail systems
  • Takes direction and feedback well
  • Can work productively without constant supervision
  • Communicates well with coworkers
  • Knows when something needs to be brought to a manager
  • Shows up reliably for scheduled shifts

Previous experience in retail, restaurants, hospitality, reception, grocery, convenience stores, banking or customer service can be useful.

Cannabis product knowledge is also useful, but it isn't required.

We can teach someone about flower, concentrates, edibles, vapes, cannabinoids and the products we carry. We're more interested in whether you can learn, communicate with customers and reliably follow procedures.

You also don't need to make cannabis your entire personality to work here. You need to enjoy working with people, be comfortable working in a cannabis dispensary and take the responsibilities of a regulated business seriously.

Colorado Cannabis Requirements

Applicants must be at least 21 years old.

Employees must have an active Colorado Marijuana Enforcement Division (MED) Employee License before beginning regulated cannabis work.

You do not need to already have an MED license when you apply.

Candidates who are eligible and willing to obtain one before beginning regulated work are welcome to apply.

Employees are responsible for obtaining, maintaining and paying for their required MED license.

Benefits

Full-time employees have access to our benefits package, including:

  • Medical insurance through Kaiser Permanente
  • Dental insurance through Delta Dental
  • Vision coverage through VSP
  • Supplemental accident, illness and gap coverage through Transamerica
  • Colorado SecureSavings retirement program
  • Paid sick leave
  • PTO/vacation beginning after six months of employment
  • PTO that increases with tenure, up to four weeks per year after five years
  • Performance and wage reviews
  • Opportunities to learn additional retail responsibilities
  • Participation in our regular customer loyalty program, including 10% back in loyalty rewards on eligible purchases, subject to program terms and applicable law
Learn More Than the Front Desk

Front Desk gives employees exposure to several parts of cannabis retail from the beginning.

You'll learn customer intake, ID and compliance procedures, online ordering, cannabis products, customer communication and how Front Desk, budtenders and store leadership work together.

Employees who become proficient in the position and demonstrate good judgment and reliability may have opportunities to learn additional responsibilities or pursue other retail positions as openings become available.

A retail progression can include:

Front Desk Associate → Budtender → Lead Budtender → Assistant Store Manager → Store Manager

Advancement isn't automatic or simply based on how long you've worked here. Employees need to learn their current responsibilities and demonstrate that they're ready to successfully take on the next ones.

About Nature's Herbs & Wellness

Nature's Herbs & Wellness has been operating in Colorado cannabis for more than 15 years.

We're still privately owned by the same people who founded the company and have longstanding roots in Northern Colorado.

What began as a local cannabis business has grown into an operation that includes dispensaries, cultivation, extraction, manufacturing, warehousing and distribution.

Our Log Lane Village store is an established part of that business and serves customers from Fort Morgan, Log Lane Village and surrounding Northeast Colorado communities.

That creates a mix of regular local customers, people who already know our store and customers who may be visiting for the first time.

For someone entering cannabis retail, Front Desk provides a practical place to begin learning the business while working alongside people who already understand the store, its customers and the products we sell.
