ROLE OVERVIEW
The French Linguist is responsible for performing quality-control activities and on-demand translation tasks for assigned accounts and projects. The role ensures that all deliverables meet the required quality standards and deadlines, and verifies that the project team adheres to the established Language Process.
The ideal candidate should be available to work within PST business hours (9:00–17:00) to align with client delivery times.
MAIN DUTIES
- Performing copy-edit tasks on assigned projects or accounts
- Performing on-demand translation tasks (EN > FR)
- Performing lead support on assigned projects or accounts
- Managing and maintaining language materials—including glossaries, style guides, and work instructions—to ensure they meet quality standards and remain up to date as required by the account or project
- Managing, tracking, and resolving project-related queries
- Ensuring good interaction among team members and resolving questions on terminology and language matters
- Testing and qualifying new freelancers and vendors as required
- Developing and training internal linguists, as well as new and existing freelancers, in accordance with account requirements and Welocalize's needs
- Interacting with clients on linguistic matters as required
- Participating in the development of new and improved working processes
- Meeting or exceeding productivity, quality, and on-time delivery KPIs
- Achieving the goals set by the the Partner Engagement Manager
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIRED SKILLS
- Education Level: University degree in Translation/Applied Languages and related experience as translator and/or reviewer
- 5+ years of experience in translation/localization
- 5+ years of years of experience in linguistic review and copy-editing
- Experience in two or more subject areas (with Marketing, Legal, UI and Customer Service preferred), along with excellent knowledge of the terminology used in those subject matters
- Native-level fluency in French, both written and spoken
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken
- Thorough understanding of the localization process
- Strong user proficiency with standard software (e.g., Windows and Microsoft Office), as well as with common CAT tools (such as XTM and SDL Trados Studio), and issue-tracking or query-management tools (e.g., JIRA)
- Ability to learn new localization tools and applications quickly
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work with tight deadlines
- Ability to give clear, concise and constructive feedback
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and linguists
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Ability and willingness to train others and transfer knowledge effectively
- Ability, willingness and experience in communicating positively with customers at various levels
- Ability to work within a virtual team
