Mission

TAR’s mission is to power intelligence for the world. We are building the world’s first off-grid power plant for data centers powered by renewable technologies.

We firmly believe AI should be built in the US for the benefit of all people. For that, power must be fast, clean and scalable. We are singularly focused on delivering GW-scale power faster than anyone has ever done, by rethinking every layer of the stack.

To deliver on this vision, TAR manufactures, deploys and operates off-grid energy assets with a renewable backbone. We vertically integrate to solve every bottleneck, from racking systems to power electronics to dispatch algorithms to on-site construction.

Leave your mark by powering the future of civilisation-scale energy infrastructure.

We hire people who care deeply about this problem space. If that is you, please apply!

Company

We are a team of seasoned operators run by founders who previously scaled a company to over 80 people and $350M in annual sales. We know how to operate and we move fast.

We are working directly with one of the largest compute providers to make our vision come true and plan to deploy 5GWs by 2028.

TAR is both a hardware and software company, we are building out massive, critical, physical infrastructure.

We operate on…

  • High ownership. High Agency. Own project end-to-end. Great people don’t need to be managed.

  • Speed. We achieve great things on incredible timelines. We always push ourselves to go faster.

  • First principles. No ego. No hierarchy. Challenge every assumption.

  • Passion. Solving the energy problem is one of the largest challenges that faces the world now and in the future. We put in long hours and hard work to solve this.

About the role

TAR vertically integrates the physical hardware of an off-grid power plant: racking, structures, enclosures, and the mechanical systems that hold a GW-scale campus together in the West Texas environment. As a Founding Mechanical Engineer, you design that hardware and drive it from concept to mass production. You own parts from the first Fusion sketch through detailed drawings, material selection, DFM, and vendor handoff, designing for extreme heat, high winds, dust, and the speed of our deployment timelines. This is a mid to senior level role: we scope ownership and title to the person, and the most senior hires set mechanical standards and direction from zero.

Responsibilities
  • Design mechanical and structural parts, produce detailed technical drawings, and develop novel design concepts for racking, structures, and enclosures.

  • Own material specifications (steel, aluminum) and drive fabrication and design for manufacturing.

  • Engineer systems to withstand environmental extremes including heat, wind loading, dust, and severe weather events over a multi-decade service life.

  • Run structural and mechanical simulation (FEA, load and wind analysis) to validate designs.

  • Own vendor and production planning, and take hardware from prototype to volume manufacturing.

  • Iterate rapidly with the electrical, robotics, and construction teams to close the loop between design and field installation.

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in fast-moving mechanical engineering and/or design roles

  • Track record taking new hardware from CAD (Autodesk Fusion or similar) to production, in a fast-paced, rapid-iteration environment such as robotics, industrial automation, drones, defense, or an elite hardware startup.

  • Deep CAD and 3D modeling proficiency.

  • Strong materials, fabrication, and DFM expertise across steel and aluminum structures.

  • Hands-on testing and production experience with short development cycles.

  • Bias for speed and rapid iteration, with high ownership.

Nice to have
  • Experience at a top hardware company such as Anduril, SpaceX, Tesla, or a comparable elite hardware startup.

  • Structural engineering for outdoor or utility-scale assets (solar racking, steel structures, foundations).

  • Depth in FEA and environmental or wind-load simulation.

  • Experience designing for high-volume manufacturing and supply chains.

  • A structural PE license.

Salary and Benefits
  • Up to $15K Relocation bonus

  • Unlimited PTO

  • Health, Dental, Vision insurance

  • $1K monthly stipend for meals
