Build and deploy full-stack financial infrastructure directly with strategic customers. Scope requirements, develop production-grade features across TypeScript, React, NestJS, Postgres, Prisma, and AWS, integrate blockchain and payment systems, debug production issues, and generalize customer-specific solutions into reusable platform capabilities. The role requires close customer collaboration, strong communication, rapid prototyping, and rigorous attention to correctness, resilience, and auditability in money-movement systems.

Every person, every business — connected to the Global Financial Internet. Built on Mural.

That's the world Mural is building. This role is one of the hands on the brush.

About Mural

Mural is regulated financial infrastructure across the US and Latin America — the whole stack, one partner. Companies build cross-border financial products on us using our API. We carry the licenses, the compliance, and the failure states, so they go live in weeks instead of months. Under the hood, fiat and blockchain run as one system. Their customers never see any of it. Money comes in, money goes out, and it just gets there.

We've processed over $2 billion across US dollar, stablecoin, and international rails — USDC and USDT on major blockchains, ACH and wire in the US, and local rails across Latin America and Europe (PIX, SPEI, Bre-B, CBU/CVU, SEPA). Customers include Deel, Bolt, Opera, Koywe, Taxdome, Uniswap, Movii, and more. We recently closed our Series A. And we're an AI-native company: agentic tools are how we build, operate, and scale.

The Role

Our customers don't just call our APIs — they build their products on us: balances, payment operations, their compliance state. Which means our business succeeds exactly as far as theirs do. Forward Deployed Engineering is the team that makes that true, one customer at a time.

You'll report to our CTO and embed with one strategic customer at a time — the enterprises building their products on Mural where we're investing deepest. You'll understand their business, their constraints, and their pain points better than anyone at Mural, and then you'll build what their launch needs.

A concrete example: a global payouts customer is expanding into a new market where we don't yet have local account infrastructure. You scope the requirements with their engineering team, then build the virtual account infrastructure — in our core codebase — that their launch depends on. When it ships, it's not a one-off: it becomes core Mural product that we sell to the next ten customers.

That's the defining property of this role. This is not a services role, and it's not technical support. You're a product engineer whose roadmap comes from a live customer instead of a planning doc. Everything you build lands in the core platform; the best of it becomes product the whole company resells. Engagements are scoped at contract time — you're delivering what we've committed to, not absorbing unbounded requests — but within that scope, the what, the why, and the how are yours to figure out with the customer.

What You'll Do
  • Deploy into customer contexts. Iterate daily with your customer's engineering and operations teams — mostly over Zoom and Slack, with some travel to spend real time on-site.

  • Scope the build with the customer. You're not handed a spec. You work out what to build and why with the customer directly, paired with a deployment strategist who owns the commercial side.

  • Build across the full stack. TypeScript + React, NestJS + Postgres + Prisma, AWS (SQS/SNS/Lambda) — new account infrastructure, blockchain integrations, API endpoints, compliance workflows, whatever the launch requires.

  • Generalize the bespoke. Identify patterns across implementations and work with product to turn engagement output into first-class platform features.

  • Prototype fast, ship carefully. Rapid iteration against live customer workflows — accepting some throwaway work, making sure what isn't throwaway gets productized properly — while debugging production issues in real time, sometimes with the customer watching.

  • Design for correctness and auditability. This is money-movement infrastructure. Edge cases have real consequences, and you think about failure modes before they happen.

  • Communicate crisply with customer engineers, operators, founders, and finance leaders — and with our own product leads, whose pods your work must generalize into.

Who You Are
  • You're a builder first. We're flexible on tenure — we'll hire a scrappy engineer straight out of school or a seasoned customer-facing engineer — but not on the bar: you ship production-grade, full-stack work, and you have something you've built to prove it.

  • You're AI-native. Agentic tools are how you already build — prototype, analyze, ship — and we'll ask you to show us.

  • You're energized by customers, not shielded from them. You're comfortable operating directly with an enterprise engineering team, under ambiguity, where the requirements are yours to discover.

  • You're obsessed with correctness and resilience. You love a good state machine. You think carefully about what happens when things go wrong — because with money, they can't.

  • Strong pluses: payments/fintech infrastructure experience; blockchain and stablecoin integration work; a forward-deployed or solutions-architect background where you built rather than just configured.

What Success Looks Like
  • Your customer launches — on time, on our rails — and their volume ramps because what you built works.

  • The infrastructure you shipped for one customer is now core product being sold to the next ten.

  • Your customer's engineering team treats you as one of their own; our team trusts what you merge.

  • You've defined, alongside our CTO, what "forward deployed" means at Mural — you're an early member of a function we're building the company around.

How We Work

We run on three principles.

2% better, every day. One percent for yourself, one percent for the people around you.

Telos. From the Greek τέλος — not just done, fulfilled. Everyone here is focused on one mission and knows each other's Telos.

Abundance. We can create anything we set our minds to — for us, for our partners, and for our entire Mural family.

We're builders all the way down — code is a medium, like paint. We choose honesty over polish: we never claim what isn't true. We obsess over boring details, because trust is built in RFIs, refunds, and response times. And we hire for curiosity — it's a bar, not a poster.

The Process
  1. Intro screen

  2. Agentic engineering interview

  3. Onsite: a product decomposition session, a technical problem-solving interview, and a culture conversation with a deployment strategist from our BD team

Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive cash base salary

  • Meaningful early-stage equity

  • Health insurance

  • 401(k)

  • Visa sponsorship available

Location

New York City or Denver, in person, with monthly travel to customers.

We named this company Mural because murals have always told the story of a community — made by hand, made together, painted onto the foundations of a place, and meant to outlast the people who started them. Every person who joins brings a new piece.

Now let's build a force of nature business, together.
